a friend has what looks like oil in the expansion tank first thought head gasket but then no water in the sump or in side the oil filler cap normally milky substance but oil is clean well clean as. any ideas would be gratefully received thanks:bang:

It can still be oil, could still be head gasket. Only real way to tell would probably been a coolant system pressure check

I friend of mine recently had the same thing with. Citroen C2 diesel coolant bottle inexplicably filled with oil ended up selling the car for parts

Another possible source of the oil (on some Alfas and Volkswagens, but probably not only those) is a rotted out oil to water heat exchanger where incorporated into the radiator.
