My car has done around 33k/ I have never changed anything major.

Last month the gearbox connecting rod snapped and I had it replaced. The rod was made of plastic and the replacement was metal.

This last month there has been increasing grinding vibration through the pedals and the actual gear stick itself.

Has anyone heard of these symptoms? Could this mean I need a new clutch for example?

Thanks in advance.

Bump.

Guessing it may be clutch related.

How much for a new clutch and labour to fit it (including rip-off London premium)?

a mechanic friend of mine recently replaced the clutch on his friends mk2 punto which had only done 40k for similar reasons, once apart it was discovered that the pressure plate and detached from the spring assembly and was then out of balance it had degraded from years of never being used by its elderly previous owner

So the slave cylinder has to work even harder to press the clutch to disengage it

Hence why propbably the unit failed - its like cabled version's snapping as the clutch gets weaker

ziggy

My release bearing was dead at 42k as well. The release bearing had seperated from the fork and welded itself to the pressure plate. Strangely other than a grinding noise when pulling away the clutch worked perfectly. It was 11 years old though.

I'm not at all sure that it is the clutch.

Do you still get the vibration with the clutch disengaged? Coasting in neutral?

For clutches, labour is a huge part of bill -- clutch itself will probably be less than £50. Don't you have any friends/relatives in the barren north who's like a visit?

It feels like something is being mangled inside the car. Like loose bits jiggling around. Even in neutral it feels coarse. The car is 12 years old.

Anyone know roughly how much London labour would cost for the job?

I had a judder and it was oil on the clutch! A new clutch and a few new seals was replaced that was leaking.
