Morning everyone, I am awaiting delivery of 2 new coils and head gasket set, thing is there's a few nuts and bolts missing here and there, mainly the ones for the inlet manifold and coolant temperature sensor. Is there anywhere that stocks these or shall I just head to local scrapyard. I will be replacing anything slightly corroded so the list will increase.

Many thanks

Jon

Engineering suppliers will have them in various grades. For highly stressed parts you need to get the proper grade 8.8 or 12.9. Replacement screws must have the same overall length and the same threaded length. If you are unsure go to the scrappy or a dealer. A slightly corroded original brake caliper screw is a much safer bet than a shiny fastener of unknown strength. Inlet manifold and temp sensor are not going to get you into much trouble whatever you choose. Avoid the shiny fake stainless ones. Proper fasteners are usualy a dull colour. Don't use the yellow cadmium plated ones in high temperature areas. They look nice but the cadmium embrittles them at high temperatures.

Big Mick at eurocarcare.net will have most off the shelf.

Alternatively, a decent engineers supply will have just about everything, and, if you have a pattern, should be able to match it. Some stuff is difficult, but there are usually ways round it.

One extra caution: never, ever, use a bolt to replace a stud and nut.

cheers for the advice guys, I just want to get her started, and hopefully back on road, was going to break for parts but feel she's got to serve a greater purpose. I doubt very much she'll ever pass mot but stranger things have happened, for now she's serving my quest for knowledge, helped myself and a mate pass our college assessment, hopefully she'll help us pass more.

next plan is clean up head and block and install new gasket, awaiting parts for that, new coils, again they're in the trusted hand of Royal Mail,

Once engine runs will be looking into the brakes, suspension and body, dreading the body but with a bit of luck will be okish.

Poor thing hasn't had much looking after.

You left out one of the evers. The most important one at that. :)

wasn't enough space to put all the evers needed, going by the corrosion advisories last MOT, probably held together with rust. I'll try and get under her next week and get some pictures to assess the situation, I've an arc welder but no welding experience so will have to outsource that work, if needed, will probably kill any chances if bad

Not exactly pinning things down for you are they. Pictures would be good especially at the inner sills under the rear footwells and up inside at the top of the fuel filler neck can be bad as well.

See what inspection gives. MOT advisories seem to be thrown about like confetti as a cover our ass clause. With my optimistic hat on it could be superficial.

I hope you're right as shame to scrap what could be a nice cheap runabout for someone. I'm taking head off tomorrow/monday and checking that its not warped at all then renewing the gasket. Had a present delivered this morning. Have 2 coils coming as one was producing a weak spark and both look like they are older than time it's self. Then hopefully will rebuild this week if time allows. Back at college so shall be fun</p>
