Hi
Is it just me or is the punto really hard to re-fuel. Only had the (2004) car about 6 weeks but doesn't seem to matter what petrol station I go to or what angle or how far in I stick the pump nozzle, if I press the trigger more than what feels like a slow dribble then it just shuts off all the time. Feels a little wierd standing there on a hair-trigger while the other pumps on the forecourt flow through, not to mention the looks I get from those behind me in the queue. The time I spend stood there you'd think I had a 500 litre tank, wouldn't be so bad if I did, but when I'm only spending up to £25 to the top so why does it take so long - is there a 'trick' angle I need to get the nozzle at?

I would also love to know the answer to this because its so annoying when it clicks and stops filling. Ends up taking about 10 mins to put around £20 worth of fuel in

Putting at an angle and not shoving it in completely haha, I think the first £5 is a bit of a pain but getting the right angle and kinda putting it in 2/3rds ish tends to be best for me :D

Try pull out a bit, like half inch, it does click because nozzle thinks that tank is full. Fuel flow very fast, and if car has small protecting mesh fitted in pipe ( to stop steal fuel from car fueltank) , fuel bounces back , and make nozzle think that tank is full. Also when pull out , try different angle... Not necessarily upside down, as fuel will bounce back from pipe wall. Need a bit of practice ;)

It's a "Fiatism"
I found 1 pump that almost worked properly lol

Treat it like a lady for the first time - ease it in - but not all the way...and just for fun give it a twist (to about the 7pm position). Grasp the trigger gently, but firmly and massage it. Whispering sweet nothings is entirely optional.

I reckon it's designed like that because the Italians are well known for their love making

Hi i had this problem with my punto aswell (not fiatism my sei never had this problem just a stupidly positioned cap) i find you just need to poke it in slightly and experiment and see how much you need to put it in for it to be happy

what dont help is the air try to get out as petrol goes in

The air forces the petrol back and pump thinks your full and shuts it off

My tip is - i know when im empty
I push the nozzle in enough to open the little green door inside
it allows fuel in
And the Air out at same time

when im nearly full (30/35litres in) i insert nozzle correctly

But you risk overfilling/slosshing fuel etc etc so becareful

ziggy
