Hi guys

Any recommendations as to having a second key cut for my 'new' 2002 Punto?

Cheers, James

Try Timpsons the shoe menders. Some of their stores do key cutting & can cut & programme a new key.

The can also supply new central looking keys as well if you have an old one where the button doesn't work anymore.

Can't remember the cost for the plain key, around £160 for the central locking one I think

Cheers. Called in at Timpsons, seems I have to go to a specific store (Preston or Leeds) and they can do a standard key there, not every store has the facility to re-code every make of key - fair enough I suppose. However my local store can at least confirm the price when I give them the VIN...

I won't be proceeding if it is going to be £160 though!

New car, to me, collected yesterday and working my way through a list of things to rectify, one of which is the lack of a second key.

The key it does have is a remote type, changed the battery and it works!

I have a list of c.10 items to sort out - visor, door mirror, seats all shot (and not just the drivers bolsters), small bits of broken plastic trim. Ideally a new rear hatch too. Luckily, having spoken to the guy at PuntoSpares it seems most are fairly easily solved. Just a day out to Doncaster - only 1.5 hours from here.

Biggest concern is that the engine mgmnt light flicked on and off briefly this afternoon, not going to be happy about that if it goes....

Oh, and after driving it tonight, the lights are awful.. Whether alignment or just poor I don't know.

But, mechanically it is tight and drives really well and has good-ish history. I'll be posting pics when I can

Cheers

Looking on the forum, I see that there could be either H1 or H7 bulbs fitted - Is there an easy way to tell from looking at the back of the units, or do I need to hoick them out and look at each one individually?!

have you ever drove mk1 at night or in rain with h4 bulbs they are few times worse than mk2 lights

I had a mk1
Many years back, never had a problem with the lights, the same applied to all other cars I've had that use h4 bulbs including my current grande Punto

Mk2 punto headlights (projector type) where awful which I suspect is why they went back to reflector type lights on the mk2b

See what voltage you are getting at the plug behind the bulb. Ideally no more than 0.5 V less than the battery voltage. Contact cleaner applier here and at the multiplug to the headlight can help. While your in a spraying mood take off the rear clusters and check out their plugs especially the black earth wire.
