i have a 2001 punt and the engine light is on with coil 1 malfunction iv tried swopping the coil and replacing for a new one but still the same problem upon starting from cold its running very fought with little or no spark on the 2 leads from that coil after a min or so its back to running on 4 cylinders and code will clear switch it of an leave it for a min an start it it is the same so it does also seem to be hear related does all this point to the ecu

I'd try new plug leads first. Or try swapping the coils round.

if the ECU is at fault - it burns the track out and thats that
No coming or going

If it comes and goes - that a dodgey coil / HT / Spark plugs or a broken/damaged wire or connection somewhere
