Hi so I've purchased a new door check strap, the one I have purchased is one piece. My current check strap has a bolt on the hinge that you undo to remove the strap.

My problem is I cannot get it to fit because it wont fit through the door with the hinge that attaches to the chassis still on it.

I have been looking at the guide by a1ant but it doesn't mention anything about it.

I've attached a photo of the part I have got and you can see its one whole piece.

4 bolts - 2 on A fram hinge - 2 on the door for it

then going up via the speaker hole - it can be sharp so be careful - you simply pull it though

You could do the same with the mk2 as the mk2b as they are the same vehicle

Hi I've tried doing this but it doesn't fit through the whole in the door for some reason :/ the hinge part that you screw to the chassis won't go through the whole in the door.

Unless mk2b doors have a bigger opening......
Irrc tho they dont simply pull through, I had to wiggle/angle it right

Hi mate,

As ziggy says, it should defiantly go through! Does require a bit of wiggling and getting the angle right sometimes though.

I bought 2 of those fiat door straps for my 2 door punto,and both broke after a few months,door was not strained ,they are just too flimsy.
I ended up making a door strap from a very strong piece of leather.
hasent let me down since,fiat need to upgrade the strength and design of the door strap.my brother has AUDI A3 and the door strap is so much stonger
and better designed.

Hi thanks for the reply, I've been really struggling mainly due to my huge hands. I'm considering taking off the door panel to get a clear view.

If I take the door card off will it give me a clear view?

it'll give you a better view if you take the door pannel and the waterproofing sheet off yes

not a perfect view tho as there are other gubbins in there
I didnt have to much of an issue tho getting mine in or out tho....
