Hi All - Can any of you guys help me with my lads 04 1.2 8v Mk2 Punto . The main problem is that it doesn`t drop the revs quickly enough to allow a smooth gear change especially when the revs are originally high , say above 3k as in changing up from 2nd to 3rd.
Its like doing racing changes and is wasting a lot of petrol over time . The first thing we have tried is to check the throttle pedal movement which is smooth and not sticking at either end:confused:

Thanks in advance from a Croma visitor:D

Have you
A check the cable isn't slack and sticking
Have you cleaned the throttle body?

As a gummed up throttle body will mean the ""valve"" doesn't close allowing too much air in and you get a racing change instead of a normal one

Ziggy

Yes I have checked the cable , its as smooth as a smooth thing:).
Suspected the throttle body but not had chance to get at it yet . To be fair i`m more at home stripping a carb down and have never been involved with an injection system on a petrol car ( been in diesels for last 20years:rolleyes:).

the throttle body on the 8v will be **** easy compared to a carb

2x 10mm to get airbox out of way
its 2x bolts ECU off
1x Earth Hex
About 3 connections, and 1 throttle cable
You then undo 3x torx screws, throttle body comes out
Then your pretty much home free as you have 2x tiny torx to remove butterfly
Give a good darn wipe around and refit - Done and dusted :)

it takes about 20mins MAX to get it out

Ziggy
