Hey

Just bought a Punto mk2 from 03 very good used car and dosnt seem to have any problems other than it drops and when idleing.

Been looking allover the internet and cant seem to find a fix to the problem:bang:.
Any links to vids would be much apreciated.

Heres a vid of it. when it goes high on revs its me throtling the pedal.

My punto had the exact same issue a few months back.

Solved it by resetting the ECU.

Disconnect battery, leave for at least an hour (i left mine off over night)

Connect battery

Now the important bit, which some forget!

Its a self-learning ECU, so start engine, don't touch the throttle for a good 20-30 mins. Just leave it ticking over so it can warm up completely.

Then go easy on it for the next few miles as the ECU is constantly learning.

Hopefully this will solve your issue .... It's almost as if its incorrectly learnt something and 'forgets' how to idle correctly.

hehe stupid computers. Old cars just needed Oil, fuel and water to run.

Thought it was bad to reset the ECU without putting a PC on it ?

its a weird thing, i have seen a many punto todo
Inc mine, mine is a swine for doing it, however usually once i give it a few it settles and behaves normally

I do get a few dips then in the revs but not enough for the dash to make a note

---

My advice
Clean the throttle body out
Sounds to me like the Idle control valve is sticking, as a result it shuts a little bit and sticks shut too much - rev's drop
Idle valve reopens more in a sudden flop open so to speak - revs come back up
It goes rev's back upto to normal, shut a little bit - but it then shuts again too much

Remember the ECU is monitoring the engine an awful lot per second making these tiny adjustments

Give it a darn good clean

Ziggy

ive ordered the stuff to clean it with now. Waiting patiently or not.

Will try. Do you guys suspect the Airflow sensor ?
