Hello all you wonderful people :D

Anyone painted there Mk2 16v rocker cover? After fitting my BMC I now have an exposed rocker cover and TBH it looks crap (small pits in the metal). Unlike the cinq or sei the rocker cover has the HT leads plugging into it (as well as other stuff), and therefore I assume that its a lot of work to dismantle it all ready for painting? I know it's nothing major and people don't tend to see your engine but now that I am going to more shows and am taking a more active role in the forum I thought it would be best if my car was show ready (y)

I wish it did dazz :( but the Sporting doesn't have a cover like yours and there is no large expanse to paint. I think my only choice is just to totally dismantle it, paint it and then put it all back together, dunno if I can be bothered :p

Ah, i see. Somebody on here must be able to advise????? Anyone???

Seems quiet on here atm.

Anyways, i havent seen a sporting engine but i can say...

Its worth it at the end of the day, looks good and it feels like a great acheivement lol. But then thats easy for me to say, i havent got to do it.

I wouldnt start dismantling it unless you want to re-time it, and you'll have a job at that as fiat never sold the tools to the public or other garages. These tools are the pencil things that screw into the sparkplug holes. You would also need to lock the cams with a cam locking tool. Its a pig to get the cam cover off too without removing the inlet manifold.

But if you do all of this it could look very good. I thought of painting mine red when i had it in bits but never did it. I also wondered if it was possible to powder coat it as that would give it a really nice finish but i'm not sure about temps.

One way to clean the block is by using break cleaner. Should get it looking shiney.

Here's a pic of it:

would people notice the pits if you could see your face in it

like said previously you gonna be looking at a lot of money to take it off and piant it, maybe a compromise

not to keen on your mechano brakets..... :)

I think the air filter came from Angel Tuning.

Distmantle the engine, send it to GSR and they can dip it in some sort of cleaner and that shines it up. I had this done when i had my head work completed. Wish i had done it on the whole engine.

is the filter a 130 or 150? If it the 150 you can actually attach it to the cam case. the bolt hole is around 10mm and all the piping reaches perfectly. For this you only need the big bracket that clamps the filter, give it a try (y)

ah, then maybe you wont be able to attach it. the 150 offers a better flow rate too but for what you are using it for the 130 would be more than sufficent. Make sure its attached to the engine in some way or else they tend to bang about and rattle.

how about shining it up with some solvol autosol using a buffing pad on a drill, used to work great on my old triumph tiger 90 engine, then seal with clear laquer. (again not too sure about temperature resistance tho'.)
