Hi my misses punto 1.2 elx 2002 has started playing up whats happening is when raining she puts on the window wipers and they will work for a short time then cut out completely then its a hit and miss about when they come back on , so far i have checked the obvious things like the plug to the motor fuse and quick look at relays has anyone got any ideas about when to look at next ? Thanks

Just checked linkaged are fine wipers can be working then just cut out then start working again randomly really worried as i am working away from home next 2 weeks so need to try get to the bottom of it before sunday night :/

might be the brass contacts on the motor, coverd in grease,

iirc there 5 torqs screws and that peice comes off with electrical contacts on,

There's a guide for that HERE

Worth a try, sounds like it could well be the cause to me, depending on if it does it on all speeds or just one?

Alan

They cut off or dont come on at all in any speeds i.e can be going fine in speed 1 then will stop and not work in any speeds then after a fiddle and a panic they can starting working again and so on

change motor wiper cassette complete for another one
make sure you get right one though
one for cars with bonnet no grille
one for cars with bonnet in grille

they are NOT interchangeable

ebay scrappers asda carpark, all a good source of spares.................

id take the full mech out, and check/grease the spindles,
check the copper contacts, (think of scaleletrix cars)

if removing,be careful removing the scuttle trim, if you catch edge of screen they will crack,

Park wiper's. before removing mech,

Took it out checked was a wee bit greasy cleaned up still same problem they decide when they want to come on , also i put a test lamp in the plug and found out that it seems to be the power that is intermittent any ideas lol before i admit defeat and get her to take to an auto spark

you dont need an autospark
most mobile ones are failed before they start unless you want a basic towbar and lectrics fitting, last one in my place borrowed my lamp and smashed it,customer said he would pay the £50 replacements cost,im still waiting

replace wiper first
if that fails to fix your problem then next step is stalk behind steery wheel
basic do at home work

Ok doke well the motor looks really quite new and the stalk was in my mind can u buy just the wiper stalk or does it come as a whole unit with indicators aswell ?

yes
ive never needed to replace one of these due to wearing out
not like ford ones

I am.honestly lost with it it doesnt seem like the motor because put a lamp on plug while it was playing up and didnt light up then lit up when was working so its looking like an electric problem dnt know where to go now

I don't want to sound stroppy: but, back in post #4, I stated that I had suffered the exact same problem, and that the only long-term solution (still going strong) was to replace the whole wiper unit -- a view that seems to have been echoed by others: particularly s and b.

I know it seems somewhat illogical: but I too had gone through various efforts at repair and investigation (apart from replacing the stalks -- because that seemed too complicated, to my simple mind...); and nothing lasted long-term -- even cleaning the old motor (plus, of course, trying the usual clips and reinforced linkage replacements...).

It's therefore worth a try, at least, surely -- based on the experience (which is what I presume you were looking for...) of a seasoned Forum member...? Even if you start off by using a second-hand one (although, on something so essential, I went straight to new -- because you don't know if a used replacement suffers from the same defect...).

im pretty sure mine as a Relay, as ican hear it click,
when the wippers or on intermitent..

But as said, if theres no power, then my guess is as mentioned already,

Stalks/relay?

the wiper motors and Mech is aload of tat on punto's so iwouidnt over look the Motor...and what about seized spindles?

if its seizing up somewhere, the motor will just run hot & cut out,

the Mech on mine came off scrapped punto, its been good for over a year now,
