im sure oldhammer just means changing the motor, its what majority of punto owners do when they get this exact issue  more to the point its a straight forward process! :)

just remember, if your punto is a MK2 then you must replace it with a MK2 power steering motor and if its a MK2B then you must replace it with a MK2B power steering motor. reason being the MK2's use a relay version of the motor which these tend to dry out and then thats when you start getting problems, the MK2B version uses a non-relay version this was FIAT's attempt on solving the issue but it still happens one way or another so they kinda failed... :D

in terms of where to get one, there's two ways either ebay or your local scrapyard just go in and ask for a power steering motor for a punto mk2 and they'll know what you mean. usually they price around £20-40 when i replaced mine they charged me £50 but that was a bundle and deal as he threw in the ECU as well, but isn't essential and im pretty sure i have that laying about somewhere :D

I was going to change the motor this morning but would you believe when I started it up the light went out so I took a chance and took it in for re test and it passed!!!! I have a feeling it is heat related as I kept it in the shade this morning and other people have reported hot weather is a factor. So the only advisories are the cracked front number plate, oil leak and slightly corroded front springs.
