many here including my self have always said running with out the manifold heat shield is fine, maybe this is bad advice when its as hot as it was today,
this is on a 1.4 16v Idea but same set up as punto 16v

Temporary solution as original heat shield has gone some where safe. not sure if it will help or make it worse. its a bit of an alloy lamp shade held on with a giant screw clip.

Oh lord, ive just removed my girlfriends heat shield as it was rattling like hell!

May have to try and remove the broken bolts from the manifold and secure it back on properly :(

aroldite putty they even sell it in halfrauds!

https://www.google.co.uk/#q=araldite+putty+adhesive

my heatsheild is currently held on with one bolt at the bottom and just bent and squashed to minimise rattling. Is it okay to just use that stuff to stick it in place? The bolts have sheered off so cannot use them to hold it into place. All else fails I will use daves solution using the metal band

you wouid be wasting your money,
you will find it will just end up stinking the car out once it starts burning off,

not even JB weld wouid withstand that heat,

if a manufacturer fits something that adds to cost at production its for a reason
the self tappers holding say front liners get worse as model production runs out, the rear shock absorbers go from solid inserts to open inserts, from 04 you lose lower back support knob on drivers seat

so if they fit a piece of tin it needs to be there
i think im the only person on this forum who says leave this piece in place and or repair
plus of course these cars look crap under bonnet with it missing as it shows cars aren't respected or have been repaired by crooks
i will never buy a punto with this cover missing

Indeed but when it is rattling like mad and previous owners have used a cicular drill bit to remove the heat shield then all you can do is remove it.

I need to try and remove the studs from the manifold then i can refit it.

Its a stupid induction system anyway.
