Morning guys, I'm a computer engineer not some mechanic or someone who is deeply interested in cars but, it's growing on me, anyhoo...

I appear to be having a knocking noise on the left side of my car, it's a Fiat Punto 1.2 (188 60BHP).

I've replaced the following:

Wishbones/Ball joints
Tie Rod ends
Anti-role bar bushes
Gearbox mount
Drive Shafts
Disc breaks

I have inspected the suspension mounting but, it's like brand-new still! So, if you could tell suggest what else I could do then it would be greatly appreciated!

At high speeds, I also get a vibrating not entirely sure what it is. Wheel alignment done, wheel balancing and even swapped wheels from back to front. It's probably down to whatever reason it's knocking.

It mostly knocks on acceleration and deceleration, which is was I presumed drive shafts/gearbox mount. I've checked the Inner tie rod and there is no play.

So, I'm stuck!

Exhaust?
Also I hope u teplaced your brake pads when u did the disks
Btw break = broken
Brake = something a car does

If it happens on engine rocking id seriously suspecting dogbone mount whuch stops engine rocking
It sits on gearbox to subframe

Ziggy

It's not the exhaust, I've looked that of course, heh. Thanks for the spelling correction, I'm a little dyslexic and mess up!

I'll get hold of another mount, if it's just down to that. Then I'll be a little peeeeed!

Thanks again Ziggy.

i would check exhaust again
especially the rear hanger on the middle section that bolts on/ near the rear footwell as all aftermarket jobbies have too long an arm on them that bangs in certain situations that you wont normally replicate on your back

Exhaust has been checked, I've had it on a car lift with the car go through the gears. Slightest amount of movement which is expected due to flexie pipe.

I can kick the wheel or shake it side to side and it'll have the clunking. Left wheel.

Strut mountings are fine. They are like brand new and solid.

I did have some creaking this morning when turning the wheel without any motion.

CTRL ALT DELETE. Good touch ;)

Again, wishbonea have been replaced(ball joint).

Bearings fine, I bought some but didn't need fitting.

Yes S and B. I've spoken to a few mechanics and they can't think of anything else.

Haha! All of that is tight. No play in the steering rack end. Gone over and over.

Thanks though. Perhaps its a bush somewhere, who knows

jack car up
wheel off and grab the hub push/pull side to side- and u shouid be able to tell where the play
is.
use a bar to check ball joints etc

is the two pinch bolts in the strut /leg tight?

lazy way drive into kwik fit or the likes get them to check it for free &
find fault..drive home and then fix it :D

You can only feel the play with the wheel on. I'll get it off again and check it out. I've not had much time today.

The two pinch bolts are tight, ridiculously tight getting on and off! The ball joint should be fine but, I take a look again.

Kwik Fit do that? If I knew this, I would had done it a long time ago! :O

is it the inner steering joint that connects to the rack then?
these do get play in them
cheap to fix too
you might need to put your hand on the bellows as someone rocks the wheel at quarter to 3

I've given the inner tie rod as much as I can but, doesn't appear to have any play at all. But, I'll give that a go.

Thanks again.
