Off Topic Mk1 or Mk2?

ive only ever driven the shoemaker edition mind so not sure if all same.:D

Of all the Sei Sportings, the Schumaker is the one to avoid:

* Named after a pillock
* Granny ABS makes bearing and hub replacement expensive
* Stupid wheel size makes putting cheap performance tyres on impossible, and if you sell the wheels so you can put 195/45/14s on the gearing becomes too low
* Named after a pillock.

I always wanted todo a Cinq/Seicento. take the Seicento and fit it with a Cinq rear end and interior and front suspension or take a Cinq and fit a Seicento front end lol.

I honestly think the mk1 punto is a better car than the mk2. It was one of the last Fiats made before (like all cars), they lost that rawness. Sure the mk2 is bigger, comfier and more refined... if they are your main criteria, the mk2 is a better car, but if you enjoy driving above those criteria, the mk1 is much, much better. The mk2 feels wooly in comparison.

I'm another in the Cinq Sporting > Sei Sporting > Punto Mk1 Sporting > Punto Mk2 Sporting.

Throw a mk1 Punto GT into the mix though and it becomes a bit more of a decision though ;)

Why? It would look like it had been in a horrible accident and a cut and shut.

One round end and one square end would just look utterly stupid.

The mk2 Punto was a great car, my parents had a W plate ELX for 8 and a half years, and I bought a mk2b myself back in 2010, which I will be trading in for a Grande Punto tomoz!! Fiats really seem to get under your skin, lol!!

Harsh but so true, you know the truth can really hurt at times.

Thinking back, all my Fiats have been fairly reliable and the only times I have had issues have been self inflicted, ie tuning up and fitting bigger engines.

the ones I have left alone have be almost faultless apart from wear and tear.

Ok so any of you Mk2 lovers want to swap a Mk1 for a Mk2 lmao???

I always preferred the mark 1, the 16v is a bit sweeter with an extra 6bhp over the same engine in a mk2. Personally I preferred the way they looked as well, I felt the mk1s were better built at least they looked it. I was shopping for my last fiat (8-9 years ago) a long time my search took in both mk 1 and mk 2 elxs, and I'd never seen a modern car with serious roof rust till I saw a mk2 with it. That and I wasn't a fan of the interior.

However mk1s are soo old now that unless I could have one as a second car I wouldn't, simply because I effectly did a mild rolling restoration on my last mk1 to get it up to mint and that was hard enough on a car that was 8 at the time nevermind one that's homing in on the double decade. And like or not nice ones are getting rare so I would hope it would get looked after.

lolloolo super mario, old for new

Looks like a fantastic car. If I was still in the market for a daily drive then I would have it in a shot. I don't think it is that overpriced either. If there is nothing really wrong with it then why shouldn't it be worth £850? it has 11 months MOT after all. (saying that, I would try and knock him down to £750).

I loved my mk2 sporting far more than my mk1 55s. Everything about it was better. I have always wanted a mk1 1.2 sporting though.

I also ran a 55s for a long time (well 3.5 years) and when the time came to change It couldn't find a mk1 sporting that hadn't been ragged about but couldn't afford a good mk2 sporting at the time. However a mk1 which had had all the factory fitted options came up and all I can say is the only thing my S and the ELX shared was a 5 door body shell in the same shape everything else about it was infinitely better. That and as you can see below it looked like a sporting to the B pillar!

It had bigger brakes, anti roll bars, hydraulic power steering, an engine that provided better than adequate forward propulsion, longer gears, more sound proofing, proper door cards, proper head rests, a centre console, I could go on but I suspect you may have got the idea.

See I think that's why I liked my 55s's soo much, one had a full GT interior and the other had the full Sporting interior, but I do agree. my proper 16v sporting was the much better car.

Do you know, we have gone soooooooo far off topic I cant remember what the OP was lol

Seem to remember it was something to do with mk1s versus mk2s lol..

I sold my 55s back in 2006 but it's still the most fun car I've had, not because it was good because it wasn't, it was just rubbish in a really fun way that the 16v was a bit to grown up and competent to replicate. You had to drive it, the 85 16v and my current car were and are much better in every measurable way but not as fun because of it, you don't go tanking into rounderbouts at legal speeds on the ragged edge, screeching all 4 tyres, which is a shame. That and I still miss unassisted steering...
