Wondering if anyone can help. Either on start up or just up the road after start up sometimes (about 50/50) my power steering light comes on, and stays on until ignition is turned off and on. Have checked battery with a volt meter when standing and started and it's fine.
Once I'm on the move the light never comes on and steering is fine only ever within 30 seconds of start up. Annoying more than anything, but happens more frequently under load (ie radio on) but according to volt meter the draw on the battery is not affected. Any suggestions? Thanks.

How old is your battery? The power steering draws a fairly hefty amount of current especially at parking speeds and sometimes the battery and alternator are just not up to it especially as the battery gets on a bit and just after starting when the system is recovering from the effort. It's possible that there is an earth problem somewhere or the alternator is not putting out enough. Check the battery voltage with the motor running looking for about 14+ volts.
Most likely culprit is the battery if its old.
