Hi All

Driving home last night the Main airbag light came on permanently.
Before i go spending is there any recommendations as to things to look for?
I have noticed reading here theres an ecu somewhere on the trans tunnel.Where exactly so i can check connections.
also is it possible to check the "scrib" ring easily?

Having looked on ebay for ecu's the sellers mention different colours is this something to pay attention to as to what colour is fitted to my car?

Will have to take it to a garage and get codes read i suppose is first option.

thanks
Stu

do not start probing anything in the airbag circuit
ive blown many airbags off in my time and trust me here they can certainly cause life changing problems for you if they hit you wrong
get codes read either by buying the gear yourself for less than €20 off say ebay and the free version of fiatmultiscan or let your preferred garage do it for you for about €40
then report back

Is it ok to carry on driving for now until i can get to garage?
as its good friday they are closed not sure if they are open tomorrow.

the light is indicating an electrical fault within the airbag circuit,
could be something slightly out of range, like a failing battery or poor connection,
BUT there is a chance the airbag would not work correctly in the case of a collision..so it's YOUR call,

(highly unlikely to go off unexpectedly though)

as stated FES / or MultiECUScan should pinpoint the issue quite easily,

you basically answered your own thread (which goes to show just how good this forum is)

yes you can keep driving it but your airbag system is not active as long as the dash light is warning of a fault, which has obvious safety implications

Were you playing about in the glovebox, or is the glovebox jammed full of stuff?

There's a wire above it that is very sensitive, and will activate that light - happened to me when gf was scrabbling round in the glove box - slammed it shut.

Just get a cheap code read. If it's "passenger side squib" or something along those lines, just turn it off

So after having the warning light looked at,it turned out to be the passenger air bag saying it was deactivated.I had it switched off due to my young lad sitting in the front on a booster seat.
had the light reset, but its back on a again now so i,m thinking maybe its where the lead connects to the bag its self, can see nothing wrong with the key switch.
any ideas.

Hi,
there are 2 different lights,
1 for the Drivers airbag ( RED),
another for the passenger deactivation ( Amber / orange)

Which one..??,
if you had it read thoroughly it should've given a code, and pointed to a specific area of the fault..,

my issue was a damaged on / off switch in the side of the glovebox,
Multi ECU Scan gave an exact description,
£10 at a breaker = all sorted

got both of them on.Amber one is on because i have the bag switched off.
The red one came on again after having it reset (even with the passenger bag switched back on it still said it was deactivated on the garages computer).

out of interest.. what did the garage charge..??,
any more than £40 and I would go back and ask for a print-out of the codes cleared,

if you attend a Fiat Forum event - somebody can probably diagnose it for beer / petrol money,
MES is very good for this,

Its a garage run by a friend only charges beer money to look into things.
He uses one of the snap on things(its doesnt always seem to show codes just gives a worded explanation).

The worded explanation tho should produce a code tho

IE Code 14 - Passeneger Exclusion switch - interferance detected

The words kidna give a code, but there manufacture specific, so snap on might not know the codes for that manufacture

The secret all punto owners should know

How to reset that airbag light which will keep coming back and drive you mad

And how to fix that reoccurring airbag light once and for all so that you don't go mad

Hopefully these two videos will answer all your questions regarding your current predicament :)

Thanks for that.
Where do i get the cables and software?
thanks in advance.
