m3 is mk2 usually
p3 is mk2b

see its as windows 98 for slowness
and windows xp for speed

m3 might work but i would guess revs would hang and co might just be out of mot parameters
certainly worth reporting back on here what you find please if you virginise and try it
you cant swap over earlier bsi and ecu by the way as the car loom is differently wired even though all the plugs look the same
i spent a good few days last year modifying mk2 loom to mk2b so as not to have to spend any money but have to admit i failed

so op real answer is you need p3 and as been seen these are hard to find hence the reason they are nicked

things can only get worse

Had mine done at the weekend, air box under the car ecu gone. They haven't levered the bonnet just pulled the cable in the space in between the rad and engine, its so easy to get to. Im asking one of the welders at work to make a skid plate from some stainless sheet offcut to close off the underside of the engine bay and then going to get a siren wired into the bonnet on a contact-er than can be isolated somewhere discreet. Dont be fooled though, this is the second time mine has been done and they will get in if they want to. The sad thing is they will probably read these forums to get a heads up so best not to give all the tricks away.

To replace ECU you need a full loom as has been said. Pig to fit but worth it in the end. Took me a full Saturday to strip old, fit new and wire all back up + air box repair....now to do it all again as the lazy bastards cut the loom instead of disconnecting it :/

A surprising number of people seem to be affected, Is this all occurring in one geo area?

edit: just saw it seems to be around Manchester.

Hi
I had mine also stolen around 3 weeks ago
Trying to find part number aswell as a few other people, I have a 1.2 active sport 53 plate.
Doesn't look like they have cut through anything to get to it as have had another ecu on the car and it started, just the dials etc do not work properly and the steering it a bit heavy

Any help would be appreciated, I am also in the manchester area so it does seem to be something that is happening on a regular basis :/

This is something to be concerned about.thanks for the heads up on this guys.
Was wondering if someone could maybe just post about information as to what year/model/mk of car is effected and the area in which this is happening in.Also has it spread from the Manchester area?
I live in the south west and have not heard of this before reading this thread.

thanks

Stu
