Afternoon all. couldn't find another numbskull that's done this so hopfully i can find the answer here. I would like more power from my punto jtd, i did think remap but then i read that stilo's and multipla's have the same engine but more bhp.
so what do i need to take of the other engine and fit to mine? (turbo, i assume) the amount of work isn't a problem because my car is strpped already for a respray.

Hi mate, and WELCOME TO THE FORUM

What sort of power are you after? Unfortunately it's not as simple as taking bits off a stilo and bolting them on yours. You would still need a remap AFTER the mods anyway.

I had my JTD running 150bhp and silly amounts of torque. The weak point at that sort of power is the clutch and gearbox. At the time there weren't many aftermarket clutches available for the JTD but there are a few around now that can take the power.

The main difference between the punto JTD and stilo is that the stilo has a variable vane turbo.

i would like the 115bhp that a stilo has, the local breakers has just had a stilo in and i need to be quick before parts go missing. luckily the girlfriends brother works there, so i get stupid prices, £50 for a turbo:D
the clutch will be done before the engine goes back in.
i've just been looking on this stilo workshop manual i downloaded and it seems the ecu and codebox are wired differently to the punto? so the harness will need to be added to my list. can you add to the list?
would a remap be needed if i have the ecu and codebox from the stilo?

If you only want 115bhp then your best off simply remapping it. You will get that easily. No need for a bigger turbo or any other parts.

Using a stilo ECU would get very complicated. As you say the Looms are totally different.

well..... tbh, at some point in the future i would remap the 115 to 145ish :D
i would go for the complete engine but that i would be charged full price:mad:

how much is a remap? £300-400 ??

any reasonable punto JTD is worth £1000 of anyones money so what you do is sell the punto and buy a Saab 9-3 150bhp TID which you can pick up for about £1300-1500 and which uses the same engine as the punto.... and it won't rust like a punto

Good idea but, it was my dad's car before he passed away last year. the car has been stripped, rustproofed and hopefully last a good few years.
