hi there i have just bought a fiat punto 1.2 8v elx 2000 with 33.000 on the clock for cheap i want to make it quicker iv read alot about 866 cam can i fit this in my car i really like the car never thought i would & do they have many faults can anyone help

Hi mate,

You can fit an 866 in yours no problem. Obv check the valve clearances etc once fitted.

Get a DECENT induction kit, DECENT exhaust and and do ports etc and a remap and that will pretty much get you as much as you can get power wise without going down the turbo/supercharger etc route

how reliable? now that depends if you're a dedicated owner or not, these cars love a lot of TLC, if you treat them right they'll give in return a reliable car

so in others, keep on top of servicing, do weekly checks, buy a haynes (always worth it!) any rust fount deal with it straight-away! other than enjoy, these cars are so fun to drive and own

Or an engine swap

Depending on your age engine swap should be best method. 1.4 16v engine from a Stilo / mk2b Sporting. Then get cams, induction, sports cat back exhaust, decent remap and you're looking at 130bhp+ from a relatively light car which would make some fun!

Don't forget the brakes and suspension!

Also can I fit a 16v sporting head or a normal 16v punto head in my 8v ELX & how do I find a 866 cam what fiat does it come from or is it a 16v cam sorry if im being a wally. Thanx

Nah, you can't fit a 16v head to an 8v engine. The blocks are similar (if not identical) but the pistons and induction and exhaust manifolds are completely different. Still, there are a lot of 16v engines out there.

866 cam comes from Punto 75 (8v), but you often find them in later 8v Punto 60 engines. They have 866 stamped on them.

You might try PMing jiminwatford (member here). They do come up on eBay from time to time, but people have been known to sell ones that really should have been put in the scrap bin. Also, check the classifieds in the Cinq/Sei and Punto sections.
