Hi all,

Going be cheeky and ask if anybody in the newcastle under lyme or stoke on trent area would be willing to borrow me a engine hoist in the next few weeks.

my cars pouring out blue smoke and compression is down on 1 pot so I've just ordered a complete engine off ebay on 54k planning on taking mine out and dropping the other in.

If anybody can help I'd be highly appreciate it.

Thanks and fingers crossed for a saint!

i did an engine swap with a roof crane - so i hand to work against directions to get mine in

2 words of advice
- Exhaust + Inlet manifold off if you can
- Drop the engine + gearbox onto the floor
- use the crane to lift the front end of the car up from the side
- Slide the engine and gearbox out the front on some carpet or something
- If the bracket where the radiator sits will budge - then remove it - but dont worry if you cant
- Tie the drive shafts as far back as possible, the bottom ball joints do need popping so you can put lock on and leave them way out the way
getting it back in is the reverse

While your there - get the clutch replaced, and do the basic needs of the engine
Belt - pump - Sparkies etc etc
The gearbox wont need to be drained if you pull shafts out output cups

Ensure you look at the haynes manual as it tells you have to remove the wiring harness off the engine so it can come out with it

You do need a garage! - It aint an easy task!

Hope the new engine is good and the HG dont pop or anything

out the top is the way i suggest
leave inlet manifold on with all wires as ziggy suggests
make sure map sensor same as on old lump or you need to change inlet manifolds over
only problem is engine is tight to inner wing so a pry bar is usually needed to twang it in/out

hire one its safer

I agree

Also hire it out for extra time, you'd be surprised how long it'll take for the first of something

It took me 3 1/2 days todo mine
A because i spent a day trying to tease my new engine in via the top and it didnt align up due to no balancer, it just didnt wanna go back in

in the end - ended up taking the Gearbox out
fitting new clutch and putting the 2 back together on the ground - sliding it under the car on a tarp, and raising car up into the roof - under it went - car lowered down onto stands again, and then raise the engine/gearbox combo back intoplace
And for me its was 100x easier this way

if you do decide to drag across the floor, be aware you dont snag ANY cables
I found on the the 1/2 day i had no starter motor, turned out i snapped the Signal wire to the actuator, and then found no charge, and it was because i snapped the thinner wire to the alternator, no idea what that does, but i rejoined it with crimps and it worked a treat :)
