Hello from Finland! :) First post to this awesome forum. (y)

I bought a mk2 Punto 1.2 8V -02. The problem is that it cranks but won't start or even try to start.

Following fault codes have been stored in to the ECU memory:

P0302 - cylinder 2 ingition failures (stored while engine speed 1275rpm)
P1325 - knock sensor (stored while engine temperature was 125 celsius)

I have tested following things:

-tank has fuel and when I remove the fuel line from fuel rail -> fuel sprays all over when I turn ignition ON. So it definitely gets fuel. Besides fuel starts to smell when cranking.

-Spark comes to spark plugs. I have tested with all the spark plug leads that every lead has a spark when cranking.

-Timing belt is ok and the timing marks are in right positions.

-Crankshaft sensor gives 1230 ohm resistance so it seems to be ok. It also gives rpm sensor to the ecu when cranking. I have tested that with obd software.

-Camshaft sensor doesn't give any resistance so that is one question mark??

Any help with this problem? I got the car in this state so I don't know what happened before it broke. Only thing I know is that engine had been consuming coolant.. but that's it.

Check that the pip on the crank pulley is lined up with the hole in the alternator pulley. I suspect ignition timing is miles out.
Hi I just replaced the alternator belt on my 1.2 punto 02 after it snapped now the car wont start ! I wondered if my problem could be timing ? I am no mechanic the car was always on the button before I replaced the belt any advice would be much appreciated

Did you take the golden phlonic wheel off when doing the alternator belt?

If you removed the engine/alternator pulley to refit the belt, it's the most likely cause (by a long way). Hold the alternator pulley up to the light and you'll see the big hiole in the middle, the three bolt holes, and a teeny weeny hole that engages with the pip on the timing pulley.

Hi guys thanks for your replies, to change the belt i loosened off the alternator i did try undoing the gold coloured wheel but it just turned thats when i loosened the alternator instead, i had removed the two sensors that are at the gold wheel end,and pushed the rod back to allow space to get the belt over the gold wheel. I think everything went back into place ok it must be something ive done im sure, this car always starts ! i would love to know if anything above may have caused the problem if incorrectly replaced ? thanks in advance this is so much appreciated !

Check for spark and wet plugs (after cranking). If neither, replace TDC sensor.

I suspect the TDC sensor has taken a hit from the old belt as it jumped ship,
check it's wiring 1st, then the unit itself,

still possible you've bolted the "GOLD WHEEL" back out of SYNC.,

look in the GUIDES for a little help on location etc,
Charlie

Hi guys I got the AA to have a look this afternoon he checked all the basic stuff and came to the conclusion that its a fuel problem and not related to the belt, he says the pump is working and could be a clogged filter ? I might have to give up and put it into a garage thanks again for your suggestions !
