Hi guys, have a problem that's just started today. The city button light is flickering on and off pretty much constantly, at all speeds, so steering is going normal/light/normal all the time. Any ideas to the cause?

i certainly wouldnt drive it like this
i would be checking all connections from motor ecu and motor plug too
might cause a fire if nothing else

:( doesn't sound too good! I don't have a clue when it comes to fixing cars so looks like it'll be in the garage tomorrow!

Thanks ziggy, looks like it is the button, if I keep it held down it stays either on or off (depending when I catch it while its flashing) is it possible to switch buttons, or is it a full centre console job? Plenty of scrap yards round here so should be able to sort fairly cheaply

Further update!
On way to work its gone barmy, warning lights on dash: steering wheel light = constantly on
ABS, handbrake, fuel, doors, and one with a lock on? = all flashing randomly!!!

really needs systematically checking over
might be something as simple as a poor earth connection
without the car and never having seen this problem im afraid i havent got a clue
sorry

Thanks everyone, waiting on local fiat garage to get back to me, hopefully will be cheap and simple, but realistically I can't see that happening!

No chance they'll rape you from every corner possible! :ROFLMAO:

When I had problems with my handbrake cause one side was unbalnced, they wanted £50 to check it.... I was like I'll get back to you on that one and took the car straight to a garage where they quoted me £62 to fix it. So yeah don't bother going Fiat directly unless you have poickets full of money...

Good luck anyway :)

Well I've tried my local Indy garage, who's stumped, reckons its possible CAN bus problem? He's basically said get them to bang it on diagnostics and if it is that that's faulty only they can do it? Now I don't know if that's all true/makes any sense but I'm sure someone on here will be able to shed some light!

me and my mrs went through this exact problem a little while back and the electric steering motor was at fault. we went on ebay and bourght a recon motor ( you need the last 4 numbers off the steering motor ECU ) fitted it and off it went

False if you really want to svae money then you can download MultiECUScan on your laptop and buy the rigth diagnostic cables of ebay or amazon for cheap and run the diagnostic yourself, this way you know whats up with teh car and get the problem sorted without being shafted by garages :)

hi
multiscan wont help here
at best random codes will appear
im surprised indy cant help
its something silly im sure
i still think its something silly like a loose rear speedo plug rather than major bsi issues

I was only suggestin it cause an indy garage told him to get a diangnostic from fiat, not sure on their price for that but without a doubt itd be expensive as anuything from fiat is :D just throwing some help at the OP to save him from getting shafted by Fiat....But id have to agree it sounds like something silly like you said a loose plug or something stupid like that.

Ok, so on Thursday the garage re-set the error codes after doing a quick diagnostic (wasn't sure of problem, lots of communication error codes?) and since then it has been running fine, no more warning lights. They have told me to just keep running it and if warnings come back on then return to garage to further investigate......

Ok, update to the old problem.
Since February when the codes were cleared everything has been fine, until today.
Car was turning over but wouldn't start and the immobiliser light stayed on. Tried spare key with no luck, so called out the AA.

After a good hour of checking everything he could think of, earthing points, fuses, that the key was 'transmitting'? He found the cause, a loose connector, just below the indicator stalk when the steering column cover is removed. Connector securely back in place and hey presto, it's alive!

Pee'd off with myself for not getting it properly sorted the first time round, but hopefully this might help someone else who has a similar problem!

Antenna Connector has become disconnected - Classical kick yourself moment my friend!

ziggy

My city steering light has been flashing as well. Sprayed WD40 on all the plugs next to the 0BD2 socket and this has cured the problem. Thanks for the advice.[emoji106]
