I know these kind of questions get asked on here all the time so apologies in advance for sounding like a broken record, but I've been searching high and low for a suitable set of wheels for my car, and just when I think I've found one, another problem comes along.

I wanted to fit a set of Kei Racing Force 8 17" alloy wheels to my Mk2 Punto, dimensions 205/40/17, they have the universal style bolt fitting on the wheel and at first most places I went said they couldn't find a wobbly bolt with a head small enough to fit the wheel. When I finally found somewhere who could supply the bolts, they told me to bring it along for attempted fitting.

Well I took the car along and they tried, but there's a bolt sticking out from my shock on the rear wheel and they reckon once I get tires fitted, the bolt would rip them to shreds. Now they've mentioed spacers etc in the past but I dont think they tried fitting the spacer, just a plain wheel without tyre and made their judgement, and I'm reading on http://www.rochfordtyres.co.uk/Fitment.asp?psearch=Fiat and it says basically, the size should be ok for my car, and even the offset (they said it was either 42 or 43) should be OK.

Now I've been to another place who cant get ahold of the bolts, but they reckon they've fitted a similar sized wheel to a Punto, and it was OK but he wasn't happy about it.

Cut a long story short, has anyone fitted a similar sized wheel to a punto, how did you get around the pitfalls of the bolt on the shock/do you have a similar problem? :(

Even better, can anyone confirm if this wheel, or a wheel with universal style bolt fitting can be put on a punto?

Can anyone point me to a supplier of the smaller wobbly bolts that'll fit into the universal style (8 bolt holes) wheel fitting, as if I try and take the car back to another garage, they reckon they cant get them. Know this is a bit of an odd question as I dont know any sizes involved!?

The bolt doesnt hit the tyre, it hits the actual rim from time to time when the cars got fat people in the back.

5mm spacers do help the problem.

Your wheels should really have been supplied with the correct bolts to fit to your car  Ive never heard of the bolts being too big to fit....

Well thanks for the input guys, If it comes down to it I'll see if I can buy the bolts from the garage and try to have them fitted elsewhere - I 'ope!

The bolt pattern on the wheels looks like so, and they explained at the time, but I cant remember now why they would need a wobbly bolt (I think they're actually called a revolution bolt) to get them to fit, but because of the small diameter of the bolt hole, they needed a wobbly bolt with a really small head to fit in, and nobody bar this one place could get ahold of them.

I just hope the wheel a) will fit and b) wont stick out of the wheel arch.

The wheels will have 2 fitments- 4x100 and 4x108(maybe??), thats why there are 8 holes. You will use the 4x100 fitment with wobbly bolts, because Fiats have a 4x98 fitment and the wobble bolts allow for the difference.

Nice wheels by the way :) Where did you get them from?

42 or 43mm offset is way out!

On a 7" wide alloy the offset for mk2 puntos should be about 30mm.

You need a set of 10mm spacers as now the wheel will be sitting too much into the arch, 10mm spacers rectify this.

The spacers turn the offset to 32 or 33mm which imo is more-or-less correct for the mk2 punto.

Novitec and Team Dynamics say 30mm :p ;)

From what ive read, 7" wide alloys with offsets of around 40 make the car handle badly too.

if it's a 42 offset, with a 10mm spacer does that bring the offset down to 32? Which is more like the offset dave mentioned above.

Hoping to get them from Revolution http://www.revolution.eu.com great shop down near the gateshead baltic/millennium bridge. Tried them already at a place called Powersurge on the Team Valley - they're the ones who can get the bolts but after trying them on, reckon the wheel wont fit.

Would you not recommend putting them on? Is the wheel likely to sit outside of the arch? I'd hate that. :yuck:

Thing is, I'm getting shot of the punto once I leave uni, and gonna get a (better? :D ) car (1.2 8v doesn't cut it for me :p ), but while I've got the money now I can invest in the wheels, so I'm thinking for the future too and the possibility of transferring them.

I discovered the wheels btw, just looking through the free brochures they were giving away inside the garages, gotta say out of all I've seen the Kei Racing wheels look the business. I was originally looking for the Arospeed RSGT's after seeing a modded punto on "Body Stylists" web site.

Which look absolutely amazing but they've stopped making them, though Kei Racing do an RSS wheel which is similar but as I'm not going to do the rest of the car up I decided it might look a bit over the top on my punto (same colour bodywork as seen in the piccy) and settled the the Force 8's, only now these wont seem to fit! I've been browsing about 5 different sets for my Punto now, and they've all either been discontinued, too expensive or now this...wont fit! :p

Found a good link btw for anyone who's interested in finding out about wheel measurements and what it all means:

took it back to the same place today, they were like, "why didnt the lad who tried the wheel on the weekend just put the tyre on?"

And they gave it a propper go, put a 5mm spacer on, there's about a 5mm gap (enough to put your little finger in) between the bolt on the shock and the tyre on the wheel.

We couldn't go with the 10mm spacer because they cant find wobbly bolts with a small enough head and a long enough body to screw in with a spacer of that size.

So I said sod it, go ahead with the 5mm, they attempted install and.....the bolts wouldn't fit, the thread pattern/size was wrong!!!

So now I'm waiting -- ever waiting -- until thursday for him to order the right bolts in. :p

Looks canny good though lads, I was fairly impressed when I saw them on, for the whole 30 seconds. ;) :D  (I have it on good authority that smiley overuse brings good luck!!).

So anyway!

The bast**d things wont fit.

The space between the bolt holes on the wheel doesn't match with the space between the bolt holes on the front hub. Which means when they align one of the holes up, the other hole at the bottom is out by 2mils or so. So they could probably force it in, but risk threading my hub and if I had any problems changing the tyre while I was out, forget about it.

Funny bast**d thing is, fits fine on the rear hub -- on the rear brake drums -- no problem just wont go on at the front.

Which I thought was a bit strange. But, im told that because wheels designed for that car have like, a wider bolt hole there's not usually a problem.

I went to a car thing in Durham on sunday too, and saw a Vauxhall Astra with the same wheels on and it looked de-lish.

But like, could me hub be wrong? I mean if it fits at the back surely it should be the same at the front? The car has got a bit of a history, so I wonder if its been changed or something.

I have the Force 8 alloys on my mk2b as shown below

I donno what the offset on these are as where it should be stamped on the back, it hasnt been.

When I put them on, i had to take the locating pins out of the discs and drums and have had no problems, however the rim was rubbing off the bolt that holds the rear Shocker on the drivers side, and wat a bloody noise it made.

I had to get 3mm spacers on the back and its fine now (lowered 35mm).

By the way my wobbly bolts were supplied with the wheels when i bought them new.

Got goodyear Eagle F1's in 205/40 17 and get no rubbing at all front or back.

hi, i have a 2001 fiat bravo. i have bought a set of alloys 4 x 100 but mine is only 4 x 98. I checked them to see if they would fit but i can only see one hole to put the bolt in. Will the conversion kit correct this problem?

I stuck with fiat , and put the stilo claws on - saves all the hassel with bolts etc. just a set of 10mm spacers on the back, although it still hits the arch with fatties in the back. (n)
