hi all driving my car(punto mk2 active sport) about half an hour ago,it cuts out so left it a few mins. started back up,i noticed the engine management light on. when i got home i put my handheld diagnostics on it and came up with these 2 codes...

p0350 (generic) ignition coil primary/secondry circuit malfunction
p0351 (generic) ignition coil A primary/secondry circuit malfunction.

i just want to know what these 2 codes mean?
i done a reset with the diagnostics and the eml light hasnt come back on. would them 2 codes have anything to do with the coilpacks. all help welcome.

One of the coil pack is failing.

These are what send the charge to your spark plugs and causing ignition.

First off, check your spark plugs, make sure the are all clean and working. If not this can cause the coil pack not to spark and cause the fault.

Secondly, check all your HT leads are in good condition, a faulty one which has lost its insulator can have the same effect.

Thirdly, if none of the above, change both coil packs with new ones.

Fourthly... If that doesn't solve the issue you might be looking at a faulty ECU. hope not. ECU's can be expensive, mine cost me £300 3 years ago.

PS It could just be a faulty connection. check all of the cables are secure. If you've reset it and it doesn't appear again you might have just had a once off.

thanks rusz ive had a problem with the car itermittantly cutting out on me when i approach traffic lights and ive thought about changing the coilpacks..maybe they could be the reason why its cutting out

Different way of doing the same thing, but you are right they are the more likely starting point. I just prefer to work backwards.

Plus when my ECU failed it was caused by a faulty spark plug.

Spark plug failed and wasnt sparking, sent the charge back to the coil pack which failed. so 1 cylinder fault, causes a 2 cylinder missfire. this then caused the ECU to blow.. :banghead:

Spark plugs = £20 (for 4)

HT Leads = £18

Coil Pack £40-£50

ECU = £300
