My Punto heater blower used to work only on settings 2 and 4. Last weekend it stopped working altogether. After trying many remedies suggested here I accidentally discovered that by applying pressure to the control knob when at the 0 position I could get some heat blowing through. I have now jammed a plastic golf tee down the side of the knob to maintain pressure. Clearly this is not a sustainable solution!

Can anyone tell me what I need to do and need to buy to fix this? Also any recommendations re suppliers in the Glasgow area would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Graham

Pop the switch out - and check the connection at the back
if its still fowling- then swap for a donor one and see if that improves it

I take it the knob just pulls out or do I have to dismantle fascia to get in to switch?

Yes the centre console which houses everything has to come out

Check out the guides section to replacing the interior console bulbs - it shows on how to remove it - That way you'll see 2 screws to access the dial - and the connector should be behind it

i explained how to do one of these in a post last week
basically if you leave it as it is you will possibly get a build up of heat in the switch that could turn into a fire
source a new switch or as i did a s/h one and get it sorted
its a 25 minute job and you could replace the heater bulbs at the same time for pretty pink ones if you so desired or blue green red yellow.............etc:D

Cheers for that - I will try and find your post and will do it. Ordering new knob and switch from Puntos R Us for £19 - does that sound reasonable?

Gkerr did you manage to solve your problem with the heater switch? I have the same fault with my Punto so would be grateful for the help please.

Then follow the same advice then my friend
If its just random speeds that dont work - its the switch

If its 1 - 3 but it works on 4 its the Resistor pack / Damage to the resistor pack wiring

It's best if you start your own thread :)

Sorry for late reply. The problem was the switch as it eventually stop working on all numbers and did not sit in any position. However I will keep an eye out as resistor could also have a problem.

Thank you Ziggy

i'd pull it off now tbh
And make sure the connections are nice and clean and bright and tight

Sometimes just pulling it off and on a few times is enough to prevent issues

I did try that and found that there was burning smell coming from the switch. I end up changing the switch & this solved the problem. All 4 numbers are working.
