Hi all,

Car - Punto Mk2 1.2 8v

Previously had a fault with the car getting a fuel cut at 1600rpm and Engine Management light coming on which turned out to be a Crank Position Sensor. Changed it and it was back to running sweet. Now I'm sad to say but I've got one of these no start and then start sometime later problems!!!

It all started when I started up one morning and it took quite a few cranks to start the engine and then it fired into life. I think there was a little flash of the engine light too.

Then a few days later I was leaving work and the car didn't want to start at all. I set about looking at the plugs (which in the process I broke a lead as it was on so tight) and I had no spark. When it happened I could hear a clicking inside the car too. Once I got it back together again It started up on the first turn. I went and got a new lead and it fired up like a charm no light no nothing.

In the meantime I have been using my bike a lot so have been checking if the car starts each day and every start was ok. Then on Wed morning I get outside at 6:50am for work (I need to be there at 7) it wouldn't start again!:bang:

Today I started the car and the EML is flashing away and Im in the process of trying everything I can to sort it out without spending much if I don't have to (y)

I plugged my ELM327 into fiatscan and got

P0300 Signal High
P0300 Signal Low
P0335 Crankshaft Position Invalid Signal
P1300 No description Fatal

Cleaned up the battery contacts and now I'm going to clean the main earths and see if that helps.

Ill post up links to the things I try along the way

Anyone got any Ideas?

p0300 is rabfom misfire detected

P0335 - crank sensor no pulse / malfunction

p1300 - phlonic wheel learn according to another ff thread

when was sparkies N hts changed?
Sounds like possibly crank sensor too
either its not working or has a damaged wire or the sesnor is moving and isnt seeing the phlonic wheel properly

Hi, Ziggy

Sparkplugs and leads were changed less than a year ago and checked the gap on them at 0.8mm after it wouldn't spark

I just remembered that I got in the car the other day and needed to input the radio code again and reset the time too....

Got the battery on charge now to see if that helps.

I saw the phonic wheel post but my mate is crying about noise in his drive so ill do it when I leave.

Just changed the crank sensor too and same problem

Got new leads so will check them now

Run the engine till its hot (fan comes on)
Rev it upto 6000rpm
And let it settle under its own steam
Repeat revs for a total of 3 times

IF the Plugs and leads are most certainly not at fault
It could forwell be the coil packs, but normally they fail and wont work again, but could be wrong

Hi again,

I was just on my way out of Leeds and did the phonic wheel learn at the traffic light and the light stopped flashing!

Thank you to all the posters!
