Hi there - The sump on my Fiat Punto (8v, 2002) has a hole in it (probably been bashed on a kerb years ago and rusted). I have a new one to fit, but my Haynes manual tells me to remove the exhaust manifold first. Trouble is the bolts holding the exhaust manifold and Cat shield are rusted to f**k. Has anyone managed to do this job without removing the exhaust manifold? Oh and I will remember to drain the oil first

it will be like trying to remove your pants with out removing your trousers, most just leave the head shield off, either turn nuts till they snap or just rip it off around them

you cant do it without removing the Exhaust manifold

Most bolts have enough strength to come out with the studs

But replace the bolts - with some nice copper grease as well

Dont forget that some of the underside bolts are also going to be 1 hell of a swine todo if they've not been undone before
