Guys,

I have just installed a new CD player into my old '96 Punto.
In doing so, I seem to have blown a fuse.
One minute the new player is working fine, the next its dead and my interior lights and clock are also dead.

My initial thinking is that I have blown the fuse for that particular circuit.
The problem is I don't know where that fuse is.
Any ideas?

I have had a look in the little drop down fuse box area to the right of the steering column but nothing there seems obvious.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

well you have blown a fuse :D

does the fuse box lid have an imprint of what each fuse is for, if it does you can narrow it down using that, i believe it may come under 'services' or something similer like that

Yeah - I certainly have blown a fuse.
This car has a weird habit of doing that tho :(

Yeah, the fuse box lid has imprints showing what the various fuses are for.
These were mainly headlights, heaters, squirties, foglights etc.

There is a services one on the top row in the middle, but I wasn't sure what that meant.

Is that the fuse that controls the interior light - and hopefully the power to the CD player?

If so I will get a replacement ASAP.

Another question, which may sound dumb, where is the best place to get the fuses from and how would I remove them in the first place?
I tried to take the out earlier but they are stuck in there :(

Cheers.

As for getting new fuses £1 should get you a pack of 5 or 10 from a motor shop, if you can't find any go to halfords and pay a bit more. They can be a pain to get out but they do just pull out, try a pair of pliers or a strategic screwdriver :D

Thanks a million guys.

I have been scratching my head all day over this and the internet has drawn a blank when looking for a fuse box diagram.

This really helps.

I had my Punto for 5 years and never even knew about this forum :)

I think it controls cd player, interior light and clock

just take out the services one and have a look, should be able to see a blown fuse, it shouldnt do no damage if you take them out and it not the right one

if that isnt the one just check the ones that you are unsure what they for

Try the CIG Lighter fuse, when i was messing with my cd player it was the cig fuse blown on 2 diff occasions!

If you look at the link it says they are all the same fuse.

Fuse10 Courtesy light, map reading light, luggage compartment light, clock, central locking remote control, cigarette lighter, radio.

It's a 10A.

Guys,

The problem is fixed now.
The fuse box listing provided by Dr_Pepper was very helpful.

I don't think it was an exact match for my vehicle tho, so I improvised.
I bought a load of 10, 15 and 20 amp fuses and a plastic fuse removal tool and checked each one in turn until I found the blown one.

For future reference, the CD Player was on the Cigarette Lighter fuse. Which is next to the sevices fuse on the top row of my fuse box.

If I remember later on, I will post a diagram of the fuse box in my car in the hope that it will help others in the future.

And for a little bit of light hearted humour, my car turned 100,000 2 weeks ago. The evidence can be seen on my flickr page --> http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnnywashngo/11490798/

Oh, its a '96 75sx btw ;)

Yeah you did, which was spot on.

But when I start a thread in a forum, I usually like to round it off by describing how I solved the problem. That way someone can visit the thread, see the question I asked and nip to the end of the thread to see the solution :)

I am kinda concerned however, by the fact that you had a 15amp fuse for your cigarette lighter whereas in my vehicle it was only 10amp.

I am now considering whether to swap the 10amp for a 15amp. The new CD player is working fine but I imagine that using the cigarette lighter would cause it to blow the fuse perhaps?

Not a big problem since I dont use the lighter, but concerning nonetheless.

Maybe it was the guys before me, seen as its had 9 owners in 10 years, haha

Its got a 15Amp in it now, and all seems working ok, no problems :)

It's no problem, put a 10A in and see if it is ok or not. If it works ok then leave it, if not put the 15 in.

I'm unsure what you mean though, are you saying that the radio should be a 15A, or a 10? If it is supposed to be a 10A (I thought it was) then you really shouldn't put a 15A in... (Remember it will work ok until there is a problem, then you might fry something in the stereo before the fuse:D)

On the other hand if it is supposed to be a 15A then a 10A might well break!

I am going to leave the 10amp in there for now, it works and I don't want to cause any more problems by changing to a higher rated fuse.

My only concern was that GhettoMoose has a 15amp in his car.

But like you said, if it works then leave it ;)

Cheers guys.
