Hey All,

I want to change my Mk2 Punto Sporting dial bulbs so instead of lighting up that horrid orange they light up blue. Anyone know which leds will fit? I don't want guess-timates, I need to know the exact ones to buy. Also has anyone changed the bulbs in dash itself? If you have then what size are they?

Thanks
Dave

really??

well good luck with unsoldering the printed cricuit board

and not snapping any clips

and getting the others the right rating

and getting them to not overload the circuit

and getting them to work first time.

serious i'm not being mean these dials are a **** to work on

Well if youve done a lot of hard work to your punto anyway, surely having a look at what size leds you'l need for yourself wouldnt be that much of a problem!

People saying things like "Tell me what size i want!..." ****ing pisses me right off!!!

Asking "What size they might be..." will get a lot more responses!!!

I am assuming that someone has already done it to their car and will therefore already know which size to fit. I don't want to buy the leds then go to all the effort of dismantling it and then finding out that they are wrong. I use my car regularly and therefore cannot risk leaving it in pieces while I wait for the right pieces.

I doubt there's any soldering involved as suggested above, they usually have plugs that pop out then pop back in.

This is true of the Fiat Cinq which uses the SMD led's so I dunno why the Punto would be any different. I've been trying to find one from a scrappie to take apart so as not to harm my own (I've often found the transparent plastic protecting the dials is fairly easy to crack when you try and remove it)

Ive found out that if you want to change all the backlights of the intrumentation then theres 31 lights to be substituted! If you want to do just the clocks but leave the rest amber then theres 10 to change.

The led is about 2.5mm square but you'd need to check the voltage with a multimeter, its usually about 3.5v though.

Youl need a soldering iron with a fine tip that isnt too powerful, a set of tweezers, a very steady hand and be pretty good at soldering.

And you could quite easily blow one of the microchips!

Are the LED's behind the dash already orange or is it the dials themselves that give the orange glow? By that I mean are the LED's actually giving off white light?

If they are then you might want to try an alternative approach. Try these guys:

They can make a MK2 replacment brushed aluminium dial set to replace the existing one and you can have pretty much any colour you like for the numbers. So providing the LED's give off white light behind the dials themselves, this has got to be a good way to go. Just look at all the colours you can get! http://www.metal-monkey.co.uk/acatalog/Dial_Gauge_Colours.html

Considering doing it to my MK2 soon (y)
