Hiya, sorry i am new to this!

I have a 2001 1.2 punto that is running fine but the engine mangement light is flashing. I have used a code reader and it shows up the code P0352 which i think points to the coil pack or leads? The I/M reading was fine apart from cat not ready and o2s not ready....havent a clue if that is ok?!...also was checking the coil and got a bit of a shock from it, is this normal?
The lamda sensor has been changed and it has recently had a new head gasket.
It is due an Mot soon and not sure if it will pass with the light on as it means there is a problem somewhere, would appreciate some advice on what needs changing!!
Also the steering light has come on a couple of times which makes the steering very heavy but it corrects itself when i turn the engine off and on again...this has happend 3 times now??!

Cheers, Gord:bang:

Thanks for replying so quick,
Have just had a look at the link and does that mean to change the coil pack, connectors and if the light still flashing then its the ecu? Does the light just go out on its own if the problems been fixed and if so does it go out straight the way?

Cheers!

I'd start with the cheap stuff first -- pull off as much of the airbox gubbins as you can (so you get clear view of the plugs, leads and coils) run the car in the dark, and look for blue flashes. The flash indicates a HT "leak".

After that, swap round the coil packs. A little WD40 as a cleaner and silicon grease can work wonders.

Someone posted a very good series of tests for the ECU issue which afflicted the Mk2s in the guides or FAQs.

Anyone with OBD2 kit can clear the codes, but it can also be done (at the expense of the ECU having to re-learn) just by disconnecting the -ive battery lead for a cup of coffee's worth of time.

the ht leads may be as old as the car so if they look mangy consider changing them and the plugs before further more expensive issues pop up as a consequence
watch the 2nd plug on the right as its easy to crossthread this one on re entry
check ecu connectors on coils too some have experienced poor continuity here due to age

Thanks for all of your advice!
Update -

Have changed the leads and checked all connections and they seem fine. Have cleared the code off the ecu, was just wondering if the problem is fixed how long does it take for the engine light to go off? and if it doesnt go out then its the coil pack I presume?!

Cheers all, Gord.

Update - Have changed both coil packs, new leads, new plugs and checked all connections. Car is running absolutley fine, have erased the code p0352 but it keeps coming back and engine light still bloody flashing!

What do I do now??!! The car is due its mot in a couple of weeks, will it pass the emissions test?!
Oh and its a 8V....any help would be appreciated as its really doing my head and wallet in!
Cheers, Gord.

New update! -

Problem solved i think! The wife has been searching on the internet and she thought i should give "The phonic wheel" a go.......Done it....No flashing engine light! Hopefully this means the cars ok but we will see what turns up at the mot next week!
Thanks for all your help! Muchly appreciated!
