G'day all! Usual woe with the Mk2 wiper linkage on my Punto in that the ball joints are worn and come apart. I was wondering if anyone has used the linkage clips for sale on ebay and if they really do work? I'm going to get the new Wipex system that most on here recommend but as a cheap alternative was looking at the clips. Thoughts please.

hey. they are worn also on my punto i put a clip down the ball joint and it's work fine

The clip worked fine for me. Nowhere near as easy to fit as their video suggests (unless of course you want to remove the entire assembly) but once it's in place it works a treat. Mines been in for over a month now and used extensively with hte recent bad weather without any issues.

open bonnet take linkage out turn upside down and reattach, works a treat and in theory you'll get the same amount of wear again, don't need to buy clips or spend a fortune on a new assembly, easiest fix in the world

Thanks for the tips all. Will try flipping the linkage first, free solutions always try first. Gonna have a trip to local scrap yard soon to see if any have the Wipex linkage on them. Anyone know the difference between the original and Wipex linkages?

They're heavier and the early ones had what looked like a white ptfe bush , the newer versions have a dark material like abs or reinforced nylon and have notches cut in the holes for the bush , possibly to stop them rotating in the arms.
Very good service. Important to remove the old wiper assembly from the car and clean all traces of rust from the ball joints.

hi all, just had the wife tell me that one wiper has stopped moving so come across this post. the link to the drivers side wiper has dropped out, iv pushed it back in and it seems fairly tight but no doubt will come out again so.........
some of you state take it out and turn it upside down, what exactly the ball joint? (if so how)

Take the bar which has dropped off one end off at both ends turn over and push back on. Make sure to grease the ball each end to prevent it wearing out so quickly again

Done that with mine, silicon greased and so far so good. Would like some rain to thoroughly test but had enough of rain this year. Thanks for the tips.

hi, never got round to doing it yesterday, the end thats still attached is inbetween two other arms, do i just use a bit fo force to push it off?

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post in, but my passenger-side windscreen wiper attachment keeps falling off the ball joint and I can't figure out how to fix it. The clip mentioned earlier in this thread - would that do it? How do you put them together? Apologies for the fuzzy pics.

Would this be the thingy? My very-much-not engineering brain doesn't see how these things would fit together.
Hi Helen, 🙂

Yes I believe they are correct, but never used one 🤔

Maybe search WIPEX, as they were The company to go to for fixes the wiper mechanisms

I've not had a 188 punto since 2012.., and never fitted the clips.. They were around then and had a good reputation

Do let us know how you get on 🙂

For this i found cheap bullet proof soulution myself - 1. take this system out of the car, so you can work with it. 2. i drill 2.5mm hole in the center of the problematic metal ball, tap it with M3 thread, and then put some washers and a screw M3. Check if still rotates - because its possible you make your washers to close to the rod and they can unscrew your bolt. If this is the case, just put smaller washer 1st, so you have your bigger washer more away from the rod. After this its solved for ever. Did it on 4 Puntos so far. This issue usually happens while using wipers at high speeds on highway - its usually recommended not to drive that fast at least if its RAINING!
