re: starting problem cant be solved

my 13 years old punto keep cutting out as if its a fuel fault but if its left for 5 10 mins it starts back up,,theres no warning lights coming on no nasty noises no black smoke nothing car runs perfect then all of a sudden cuts out. when i try to re start the tempreature gauge wont rise and i cant hear the fuel pump . after minutes it works again ... i tried to change the fuel pump with no good any help plz

i connected it to computer and here are the results :
code 001 :u1601 CAN Line error
code 002 : p1325 Knock sensor
code 003 : P0351 coil 1
code 004 : u1600 electronic key

Re: starting problem cant be solved

1999 Mk2 Fiat Punto?
1.2 8v?

or is it a mk1?

little more info

U codes i believe are pending fault codes - ie there not really there yet
It looks like in the past or a odd fault now and then - the car doesn't see the electronic immboliser chip - and locks the engine out

the Knock sensor and coil come sort of hand in hand
Coil 1 fails to spark, the knock sensor picks up on this

when you say its sounds like its running out of petrol
You mean it struggles then dies, which sounds like the coil pack to be at fault
it gets hot - fails to spark - car stops - it cools - coilpack sparks again and works for a short while

Ziggy

Re: starting problem cant be solved

when it conks again poor some cold water on the crank sensor
its at the side of the oil filter front of engine on the left
if this cures your problem either fit a known good second hand one or a quality new one
do not by rubbish off the net they are useless, seen them not even work out of the box

Re: starting problem cant be solved

its punto 2000 and i think theres no relation with car tempreature as it cut sometimes when its cold . when i try to start it again the key code is lighten , no fuel pump sound amd the tempreature gauge dont move, after 5 min. it works again !! :) any ideas iam confused

Re: starting problem cant be solved

can u plz show me a photo of crank sensor position as i cant find it

Re: starting problem cant be solved

thx for reply man. can u tell me if a faulty crank sensor can make key code lighnten up ?

Re: starting problem cant be solved

what is that (aka BSI ) :( ??

Re: starting problem cant be solved

can fuel cutoff switch affect tempreature gauge ?

Re: starting problem cant be solved

guys thanx for reply i am really confused i only want to know what is relation between fuel pump and tempreature gauge ? as when it cut off the tempreature gauge dont rise although car was hot also fuel pump become dead with no sound ...so i leave it for 5 min works again perfectly and stays for hours before cutting again

Re: starting problem cant be solved

really thx for yout great effort guys

Re: starting problem cant be solved

You have two different sets of CAN lines if its a Mk2, the body computer controls these and talks to the other ECU's around the car.

It sounds like your temp gauge dropping off and the car stopping is all related as these systems will probably all be on the same set of CAN lines, can't remember for sure as haven't worked for Fiat for 3 years now.

So basically, as fingers says above, it sounds like your body computer is faulty, either because the unit itself is faulty or the power supply and earthing to it are dodgy.

You can either pay an auto electrician to check these supplies first or shell out 75-150 quid on ebay and get another body computer, engine ecu and lockset and have done with it.

Make sure if you do go that route you get one thats exactly the same spec as yours.

Re: starting problem cant be solved

thank you man i really appreciat your help but whats weird is my ecu is conisedered new i changed 2 years ago i will check for its supplier and earthing and return to you with the news

Re: starting problem cant be solved

If youve got water ingress around that area or its been spiked it doesnt matter if its fresh out the factory.
