When 2 Fridays ago THIS happened on the way home from work...:bang:

So initially on this dual carriageway he was on my left and indicates to come into my laneon left, so I let him in. I did not feel comfortable behing behind him so I indicated and overtook him onto the right hand lane, as Im passing his truck I'm about a quarter way past the back of his Truck when he indicates and pulls across into my lane, i slam on the brakes, he slams on the brakes having now seen me and as his truck is skidding side to side, his tailate catches the wing of my car nearly side-walling me onto the Central reservation!
The Guy driving the 10.5t says he was avoiding someone else in front but only admitted to seeing me last minute in his mirror...

Its only because I managed to control the car that it mounted/bounced off the kerb bursting both tyres on my side that I wonder how I was not crushed.
I owned my HGT for nearly six years now with vey little trouble, now because of possible chassis/axle damage its ben deemed not fit for the road, (even though it does not look that bad in the pics). So you can guess what that means...
only had about 69k on the clock too!

I did not hold much hope as it was on TPFT till I could afford Fully Comp but the Legal side of my insurers are pursuing it surprisingly and have given me a courtesy car even:eek: even if it is a 61 plate Vauxhall Astra SRi :yuck:;)

So sorry if I did not let you guyd know but as you can guess O've been quite busy with this. I will probably get another one with with what little cash I get back (12 yo Car now), but as you can imagine its not the same thing as the variator had just been done last year and a new set of unmarked alloys added to the front :(
Still all going well I hope to see you lot next year as it was my first time last year and really enjoyed it (y) Hope you guys had a fun day today!

try buying the salvage back off insurer (10% of payout offered is normal)or find out who took it away probably copart and join and buy it back there
it looks like a couple of rims and tyres a s/h early grigio wing and possibly a door if its past saving
a look at suspension and if ok a tracking
i would repair most of that damage in a morning i wouldnt even take the bumper off

chin up:)

As S&B said, buy the car back and repair. Might need a VIC though after the repair, surely you wouldn't mind going about with a set of steelies and an unpainted wing (Although will look hideous). If doo still opens and closes without too much trouble, wait til you get cash and buy another one.

a new wing smart repair to the bumper and door and a couple of wheels and tracking, you're back on the road.

there is very little chance that there is any chassis damage but a good chance the tracking has been knocked out ?bent track rod ends.

really would be worth buying back off the insurance co.

never accept the first offer from the other party, and remember that 'whiplash' takes between 24-48 hours to come out so if you get aches and a pains over the next day or so get checked out, at the very least expect a sore right leg from monster strength braking

don't let another HGT go to the scrap yard :(

Thanks for you're replies Guys. As yet I have not had the official word yet on whether my HGT is due for "Scrap Heaven", lord knows I spent a lot of cash on keeping it going, so if the opp does come to buy it back I will (y) How else we gonna keep some of those Beemers on their toes? :p

AndyRKett, I was ok after the collision no pain...so I thought until I got a throbbing on the middle section of my back so the claims company have jumped on that like a pack of Rotweillers, so that's in hand.;)

Thanks for the advice, and I'll post an update once I get an official reply (y)

Hey Guys just thought I'd update you as promised.
Well the people pursuing the claim as I was TPFT have been successful and received FULL payout for my HGT :D

The downside is that, yes my Car is now Cat C and I can buy it back ;) BUT
as it is AVIVA who made the decision on the final claim and issued the cheque, they will allow me to buy back the HGT but not at the usual 8-10%...

but at 26% :eek:and apparently I cant beat them down on it because its AVIVA policy not Insurance wide one

Now their just arguing with the people who originally gave the order to give me the payout, as to who is going foot the bill of bringing the car back to me as I was not consulted in the whole decision making process and the assumption was made I did not want the Car (hence full payout IMO).

So once its sorted, hopefully I will have saved the HGT AndyRkett ;) and whilst all that was carrying on I bought another one in Black which I'll be picking up on Thursday (y)

Yes it's an old thread but thought I'd update with the conclusion to the story!
Well because Aviva took so long (6 months)to sort out, the guy agreed to let me buy the car back at 8% not be original 26% they wanted so just £80!:D.
I replaced the bumper door and wing with second hand parts, lights replaced from the other Punto, the wing being a slightly different shade but keeping an eye out for a colour match or as near spot on as I can. Had bought a couple of panels reasonably cheap but they were originally from standard Mk2's, who'd have thought there'd be so many different shades of Grigio Steel Grey?. Track rod end was bent along with inner tie rod from impact but managed to source relatively cheaply, changed drive shaft on that side and subframe too (which needed changing anyway tbh) and new battery as old one was on its last legs.
Then before the VIC test my mechanic checking it over discovered some rust holes due to it standing for so long? Got that sorted.
It took almost two years on and off in my spare time (which seems to be getting less and less these days :p) with a very fragile budget, cursing here and there it's now back on the road with its slightly older brother lol, so happy days! Scratch one less Punto HGT in scrap heaven
Here's a pic with the two together, Black slightly modified, silver remains original, two very different personalities! Love them both, and hopefully I'll be able to get both of them down for next years Auto Italia in 2016 (y)

thats good, plenty of spare parts

Spare parts? Well as the silver one is now running and street legal after a two year Cat C hiatus so I hope that's not an option just yet lol:p but yes I can see where the logic is in what you're saying, yes nice to have that option :)

Also whilst I'm here I'm wondering why the pic I posted, the thumbnail before you click for an enlarged pic is upside down, but yet when you click on it it's the right way up? Or is that some kind of iPad glitch :s
