Hi all im just after a bit of advice realy because im in to minds.
i know i have a small oil leak nothing major already had the garage look at it and theyve said there no real rush as long as i keep an eye on my oil level.
i was going to flush the system with an oil addativ to clean it all out but im not sure, could this make my leak any worse then what it is by taking all the crap out?
anyone got any tips

thanks

Additives and/or flushing will not fix a leak.If a motor has been neglected a flush with cheapo oil can be beneficial. Unlike coolant system cleaners oil additives are unlikely to make a leak worse but they are imho a complete waste of money and could do more harm than good. Best is to change regularly with the proper oil and fix the leak.

Flushing the system with an engine cleaner is always a good idea when changing the oil, however it can make the leak worse if someone had used some stop leak oil stuff or if the leak is from a dirty crack.

Either way i'd use the engine flush to help clear the oil + gunk out of the engine.

Where is this leak?

hi madman. if i remember right its inbetween the clutch housing and the engine its not a crack just whats a new rubber deal,
just wana hold off having it done as long as i can to save the money to get it done specialy with my mot and road tax due in a month

Best tip....stay away from any sort of additives. (addativs are even worse;))

im not sure to be honest they didnt get it up on the ramps just had a quick look under.
i dont think its comeing from the gear box seal as i had a new gear box fitted 4 months back. altho they did say they would have to take the gear box and cluch housing out to get to the seal.

think my cars headded for the scrap heap to be honest the engine has about had it, i know im burning oil aswell. From the amount of work ive had done over the last year think it needs an engine rebuild.

8v punto? your leak will either be cam cover (rocker cover) gasket £5 or o ring on the back of coil pack holder about 30p
guides here will tell you how to fit them, both easy. it will be dripping down making it look like its coming from lower down.
only additive worth using to flush is forte, others are just parafin.

I remember once using the wynns engine flush boy was that a big mistake! just 2 weeks later I started noticing smoke bellowing out the exhaust took it to the mechanic and he said oil rings have gone and it will be a big job to put right I asked could it have been due to me doing an engine flush with the wynns engine cleaner and he said to me he'd never ever use any flushing agent as they are known to cause damage to engines.

But thats just my experience maybe im just unlucky..

I do know people that have used them and have been fine afterwards.

Any motor company will not advise the use of these additives. This would invalidate any warranty just for starters.

Seriously, an engine that sounds tappity or noisy, or what ever, even in this case the OP is unsure what the problem is. An additive certainly is not the answer. Pure & simple a money maker. As I've pointed out before, at best you'll be x amount out of pocket & the car wont be running any better or worse. At worse goodbye engine.

hi dave yep its an 8v punto. did the rocker cover just over a 2 month ago and it seems ok i know my o ring is leaking as its just started again fixd that like 6 weeks ago but carnt of done it right
