I know this sounds iffy by reading the title but I can explain!

When I bought my punto I was told that the dash had been replaced and they didnt know how many miles it had done (I checked with the MOT check thing online and got a rough estimate of about 55-60,000 miles + ~17,000 on the clock now).

So as of now my odometer reads ~17k and had ~14k on when I got it.

My LCD screen on my dash flashes, I'm guessing its because of this, and needs proxi alignment. It didn't bother me until now but I'm guessing I need to try and get the miles sorted out.

Am I able to get the odometer modified so it reads up until the last MOT I can see before it was changed + the 17k and then say.. an average of all the MOT check odometer readings from 2000-2009 added on also

So say 84,0000 on the clock roughly.

Any idea where I can get this done in Nottingham if it is even possible and how much I would be expected to pay, and do you guys think it would stop the dash flashing?

The cars ecu will actually have recorded the cars full mileage fairly accurately, your clocks can be adjusted to match this. Some garages can do it fiat and I think you can do it yourself with a Licenced version of fiatecuscan software and a cable off eBay

Cheers for the reply mate.

Do you know how much I'd be expected to pay to get someone to do it? Guesstimate?

Just an update, I rang Fiat who said "It can't be done" and must have a new instrument cluster so they can do it that way for a £45 + VAT Labour charge and £420 + VAT for the instrument cluster. Obviously this is not much for a software change right..... *hint of sarcasm* So Any idea how I can get this sorted?
I'm in Nottingham if that helps and willing to travel!

Tell them its already had a lower one and it reads lower mileage, might be worth calling a few other dealers if your willing to travel (y)

Look in the back of news papers or google mileage correction in your area. Fiat can do it they obviously want to take you for a mug.

At the very least they can proxi align it and stop the flashing

if you have some mates who own fiats why not club together and buy the full fiatecuscan
elm lead
vag com lead
and the 3 other leads between you
total cost£100 ?

one of those crooks who do mileage correction will charge you £100

I already told them that it only said 17k and the real mileage I assume is 70k +

Haha mug suits it best! I'll have a look round on google. Some are offering it "From £50" but none are in Nottingham so I assume after travel it'll be expensive!

Would I need to buy all the leads? Is it hard to do? I don't have any friends with fiats just me.. but if it may save me trips to the garage every now and again to read codes if anythings wrong then I don't mind splashing out.

You can do it with just the 1 cable, ebay for a ELM 327, version 1.3 or 1.4...

You will need the full version of fiatecuscan to set mileage and proxi align

then you will be able to read codes and delete errors yourself

Its easy to do, hardest part is converting the miles to km, as you need to write the new mileage in KM, then it will display it as miles

Cheers mate! helps a lot! Wont it show in km on the screen? I'm pretty decent with maths so I can convert km/miles and back just I thought from Screenshots I've seen it shows it in KM already? or am I missing something!?

It's stored as KM, but the clocks automatically convert it I believe (y)

Cheers lads.

Had a few quotes of £120-£150 lol, would be willing to pay £50 or so for someone to do it for me, but id rather pay £100 and risk it myself pay an extra £50 on top of that for someone to do it!

Will order the kit when Payday arrives!

Edit: Is this the cable I want that will do proxi-align AND the odometer reading? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELM327-US...iagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item35b9e923d3

That's the right cable. But it just transfers information to your pc. You'll need a www*fiatecuscan*net installed. The free version will only show the data but if you want to proxy align, you'll need to pay the license :(.

Cheers mate!

does anyone know if "this" problem would affect what I want to do?

That issue will only affect you if you're connecting to a car that uses the slow-CAN bus (Grande Punto / Evo / 2012 Punto / 500 /Mito / Giulietta).
On a mk 1/2 Punto any Elm should do. If you're likely to replace the car with another Fiat tho, pay a little more for a better interface. See the 'how to use' page on the FES site for the ones known to work without modification.

Hi mate, I'm in Nottingham and can sort this for you. Give me a shout on 07932 996119.

Cheers

Cheers for all the help so far guys it's been superb, really appreciate it.

I got the cable today and intend to have an "attempt" tomorrow without doing the resistor jobby so if it fails I can order the stuff for saturday. Anyway -

I may have mis-read it but I cant see how to 'make the connection' between the laptop and the car - I Know (Or think..) that the ODB port is in the fusebox (am I correct?) but do I need to have the car key turned onto step 1 (electrics only) or engine turning over or do I not need the key in the car at all?

Thanks again!
