And do you mean like common faults with the model or just my car?
If so then all common faults I have is a minor oil leak now and again but I cant figure out what it is. The rocker gasket has been changed twice now and that isnt it.

And the main problem i have is with the rocker cover leaking every know and again after been replaced and "touchwood" has been the only main problem within 2 years of ownership.

I had a mk2b 1.2 8v as well and the rocker cover used to leak oil all the time, sounds like its a common fault then

Why? What purpose is this going to serve?

Someone recently asked in the leisure lounge why did you buy a fiat, there was no real reason for that thread either and the op never came back, sorry to sound like an arse I just don't really see the point in these threads?

is everyone that has the cam cover leak following the guide in the guide section? that says a way to stop them leaking again. also they are ment to be replaced at certain intervals.

There is a point, so we can see what problems they have, if a car buying novice like myself wants to read common things tha could potentially go wrong, before going ahead and buying the car.

On the Mk2 and Mk3 Punto 2

1.2 8v engines judder commonly.
Wishbone bushes commonly fail.
Oil seals perish on the gearbox.
Gearbox bearings have a high failure rate.
Wiper linkages commonly fail and can be uprated.

Rust is common on the Mk2 and 3's underneath, a lot of them seem to have been poorly sealed.

Fine except for a couple of things 1. You already bought one and 2. Very rarely anyone searches the forums to find information so in a few weeks time this thread will disappear never to be seen again which will Lead to someone asking the same usual questions,

I had that problem. Ended up being an o-ring between the coil pack mount and the rocker cover. Fiat claims there is no o-ring but it is part of a head gasket kit.

It also doesn't appear to leak there but it did and ran along the seal of the rocker cover making it look like the gasket.

Yer and because it runs it is very hard to find exactly where sumtimes and then when it stops the oil tends to hang around.

Re-occuring problems:
1.Engine jugger while standing

One time problems:
1.cylinder #3 missfire p0303 -- > change ignitioin wires (x4)
1.lambda sensor p1135 --> switch lambda sensor
1. P1702 Connector lamp from A/T --> Was not resolved (happened after changing the ignition wires if that help)

punto 2001 mk2 1.2 16v sporting speedgear

started off dipping power pulling away, cleaned throttle body now a rattle over 2000rpm (in gear) thinking of replacing it OBV recon'd from a breakers as new is over £400

I have owned a Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active 60HP (188) Manual Steering since September, 2002.

That's some 15 years now, lads.

Faults: NONE (The car never broke down)
Km Done: 76882 as of yesterday
Issues: The glovebox compartment keeps opening by itself after hard bumps on the road which we got aplenty here in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Yunanistan (ακα Greece)

Other notes:

1. The car has been parked inside a garage after use during these 15 years.

2. I drove the car at a max RPM of 3000, most commonly 2750 RPM.

3. I very rarely drove the car above 110 km/hour. The car was mostly driven on highways at an avg spd of 95 km/hr.

4. Zero rust.

5. I installed a BRC LPG kit a few days ago, so the car now runs on LPG.

6. I intend to keep this car for another ten years, as taxation here in Greece is insane, and one is very severely punished (over-taxed) by the State if one buys a new car.

I've had Coil pack failure - Common
Wiper Linakge Failure - Common
Gearbox issues - Im on box no4

Had exhaust hitting rear axle issue - Common

Otherwise this ones not had major issues

1.2 8v Active sport Mk2/b.....
Not many issues apart from
1, On 2nd Gearbox, killed the bearings and seals in the original one (still got a ways to go to catch up with Ziggy who is on box 4)
2, Broke rear spring and replaced it...also replaced rear shocks (improved the handling somewhat)
3, Replaced all exhaust rubbers to stop the exhaust knocking on the suspension (Common Fault)
4, Air bag light.......Must get round to sorting the earth so it stops doing it...lost count of how many times i've reset it in last 2 years
5, replaced Thermostat after original one knacked

Apart from that no issues.....no oil leaks, no collant leaks, wiper mechanism works fine.

Not sure what AndyRKett’s objection to this thread was. I’ve just bought a Fiat Punto, and found this thread by googling ’Fiat Punto common problems’, in order to find out what I ought to keep an eye on - after the wiper linkage falling apart the first time I drove it in the rain… Pretty useful to know what problems people encounter. I ordered a cheap clip from Ebay, by the way, which solves the linkage problem effectively for a fiver.

A good way to assess the common issues with any car is go to the relevant Forum.
Sort the threads by number of views and you'll get a fairly good idea of what is pushing peoples buttons and what isn't. Take this thread for example. Look at the numbers of views and replies.

I'd like to establish whether the 'Punto (Mk2/2b)' forum *is* the correct one for me... see my newbie post. (That is, I know all the spec about my car that I can gain from the manual and the HPI information, but I don't know if it's a 'Mk2' or 2b, how those are defined, whether it's simply the year range or if there's more to it than that?
