My punto Mk2 (03 plate) had sat on the drive for about 3 months (bought new car, and hated it so sold again (n) ) Worked fine for couple weeks, but now whenever I turn the engine off and remove the key, the Engine management and the Oil light stay on, even after the car has been locked. They stay on till the the car is started again, Even after being parked for 20 hours. Neither light is on while driving, and garage have found no problems with oil system or engine. Anyone know what could be the cause and cure?
Its a 1.2 8V engine.

Thanks in advance, Grant

the ECU crashs's while shutting down

Disconnect the battery for a night - reconnect in the morning
see if the fault disappears

I had this problem, i just ignored it and left it be, one day it didnt come back on

Mine was the Oil Light and the Temperature guage stuck at half way, every ecu displays faults slightly differently

If you have a home car charger, while the battery is off overnight, give it a good charge :)
Winter is hear, a low battery isn't good

It could also be the alternator voltage regulator is failing and feeding back to earth when the engine is off. Disconnect the alternator's power cable and see if the light goes off.

If it is the alternator you risk burning out the battery by overcharging it.

It's nothing more then a Body Computer software glitch, like Ziggy has said. Disconnect the battery or the Body Computer main feed plug, wait 5 mins, and refit to reset the system.
