bought the cable on ebay and downloaded the free fiat ecu scan software. but it just says i need to buy the full version to use it on my ecu..my car is a punto mk2 16v sporting 53 plate. the engine management light keeps coming on and off every other day just wanted to find out the code is. car still runs fine wether light is on or off. any ideas? or shall i just buy the full software?

i think you are doing something wrong
are you using the elm lead later version or the vag lead?
im sure i just plug the elm in

Im sure You can pick up an OBD reader and fault clearer for about 20£ now adays

Just checked on the FES site, the 16v Engine ECU needs full version to allow it to connect.

I alway thought you could use the free version to read codes on any fiat engine..

At full price its still a lot less than Fiat charge to read the codes.

cheers for replys guys. yeah cable is definatley right connects up fine just says i need to purchase full version to run diagnostic.. looks like ill have to get the full version. before i do, any ideas of what it could be? the first time the light came on the car started bogging down when i gave throttle for about 5 minutes but then was fine. now just keeps going on and off at will. i know it could be a number of things. has it happend to anyone before?

Worth a Punt at looking at Digimoto free edition - its abit crap for me tbh

BUT - Scantool i've used with some more sucess, works on the parents merc - handy as this fault is annoying....

None as good as FES tho for old Fault codes stored and better definitions tho
