Hello ive a 2005 punto dualogic with 23500 miles, the thing has started shuddering when taking off or reversing, doesent do it any other time and doesent do it all the time,my garage couldnt find anything wrong with it,please HELP!!

Got any Warning lights for the Gearbox?

Also - we say this to all Autobox owners

Clean the Rear light Connectors - takes 10mins and see if the fault improves

Some faults are caused by a poor earth - and this confuses the ECU on the gearbox
So might be causing the Juddering effect

Ziggy

No lights showing at all,but shakes pretty violently sometimes, it is only when starting off in reverse or in first, also read it could be the throttle control?? Is it easy to clean the terminals? i guess id have to undo the battery? Thanks smitaly.

Juddering in first or reverse on a normal manual means the clutch is contaminated or wearing out. Duologic uses a manual type gearbox shifted by electronic controlled actuators. If its done more than 50K get the clutch looked at. Duologics are more often stopped with the clutch open rather than in neutral so the clutch wont last as long.

Oil fine, car only done 25000,but on the last service the local garage couldnt remove the screw out of the sump due to the main dealer over tightening it,doing my head in!

The clutch is probably ok at that mileage, but the issues are the pressure plate worn causing the pedal action to be lumpy or the gearbox shaft seal leaking gear oil onto the clutch.

The Duologic of course has no clutch pedal but the clutch is much the same so if its done a lot of town driving with the car stopped but not put into neutral the pressure plate could be goosed. That could cause it to become jerky as the mechanics wont be running as they were intended to. The controls dont encourage drivers to use neutral even though the book says to not hold it in-gear for a long time.

It could also be the mechanism is sticking somewhere else. I dont know if FiatECUScan can diagnose the Duologic, but see what they say here - http://www.fiatecuscan.net/

Also ask on other forums as the Duologic is used on other models e.g. Panda.

The first thread suggests jerky transmission might be how its driven dont plant your foot too hard when pulling away or reversing as the system will lift the clutch and try again causing the jerks. But others suggest its a worn pressure plate.

Thanks for that, but gave up on the fiat and traded it in for a........COOPER!

noticed this 'juddering' on a test drive the other day. Definate low speed 'judders' as opposed to jerkiness during the changes. I was gentle on the throttle and the car has only done about 3000 miles. What could be the cause?
