Hi, just wondered if anyone can help. I've already had a look at similar threads, but nothing is quite the same.
I've just got a Fiat Punto Y reg. It's just passed it's mot, with a few advisories to do with the brake pipe and hose.
Anyways it is running fine, no knocks or anything. The first day I had it the battery died, but I thought this was due to it sitting idle for a month.
Since this, the engine warning light keeps going on, it's not flashing, it stays on for a day, then goes off for a day.
The car is running ok, except it cutting out twice whilst sitting idle, but it started back up no problem. No other lights are on and it seems to be running fine.
Does anyone have any advice please. I have read it needs to be plugged in to have the codes read, but I've also seen disconnecting the battery can clear these if everything is running ok.
Thank for your help it's much appreciated.

I'm no expert but I think the next step is simply just to get the codes read. There may not even be a fault, and the codes may just need clearing.

Either way, it's not expensive - get the codes read, take note of what they relate to, clear them and run again until/if the EML comes on again. If it does, get them read again and whatever code is now listed (hopefully only the one), that's the cause of the problem and now you know how/what to troubleshoot, rather than playing the guessing game and hope for the best.

Hope this helps..

as cgarr04 says
ive read the codes on these earlier puntos with a basic gendan code reader /clearer and they are now available from the bay (look for eobd reader/clearer)very cheaply, cheaper than paying a garage sometimes

Thanks :) An update already lol. Driving back from work, it started losing power and juddering at junctions. Took it straight to the garage near where I live and it cut out, started it up and it was shaking loads.
The garage seems to think it's the coils. I am awaiting the dreaded phone call now.
Thank you guys
