Hi I have a problem with mk2 punto 1.2 8v car runs fine for a few days and then car management light comes on fiatecuscan says coil 2 low signal from sensor fatal.
I changed the coils for new ones and have changed them back as fault is still there car starts from cold and runs fine but when I stop and go back to it within 2/3 hrs it starts to behave wildly running rough and won't idle so I have to limp home then it seems to clear itself I have also changed crankshaft sensor with no change.
I have changed coils and ht leads round but fault remains on coil 2.
Any help appreciated

If the wiring terminals are clean and tight, and the loom itself isn't broken between the ECU and coil 2, the only thing left is the common ECU failure issue.

It could be as simple as a dry solder joint on the ECU coil driver circuit. A good light and magnifying glass should find it. See the thread on repairing steering motors for circuit board repair details. If the solder looks ok, leave alone and send to to ECU Testing Ltd.

new plugs ht leads and coils fitted but still giving problems can be o.k for a day or so it seems to be triggered by reversing, changing down quickly or switching on main beam.
It is normally fine in the morning or if it has been lying for a few hours.
Will try your suggestions and report back can't afford to spend much more on it as I am a student but need the car to get back and forword to uni.
Thanks for suggestions

Check that all the car main earths are good

good earths can remove some bizare faults tho

If the fault is back - check which coil the ECU says
Swap the 2 coils over
And wait for the Ecu to pick the fault up again

If it moves from coil 2 to 1 - its NOT the ecu, its the Coil pack

If it stays at Coil 2, It could be a Wiring issue or the dreaded ECU, but i'd leave that as your last clasp - check all other routes first

It sure sounds like the either there's a ECU issue or it's throwing up a bogus code (I had a Volvo with a code for rear abs not reading that a non-franchise dealer traced to corrosion on terminals of the main abs controller; go figure).

How recently were the spark-plugs last changed?

See post 5 - very recent by the looks

Removed ecu and cleaned the plate behind it no way to get at soldered joints unless I remove plactic rivets from plate .

Fault says coil 2 but after changing coils over again fault still said coil 2 but on the fiatecuscan graph coil2 is now moving up and down but coil 1 is now static
Fault code is P0351 but after changing rear coil it sometimes comes up with P0352 as well starts for a moment then stalls and won't start again.
Clean all earth wires I could see and put an earth wire onto both coils and back to battery terminal but still got the fault

Fault code says low signal to sensor the fault is present now status fatal

On the fiatscan parameters chart coil 1 was recharging around 4.3 ms
and coil 2 was static after exchanging coi 2 I managed to get coil 2 to show recharging around 3.3 ms but coil 1 showed static and fault codes p0351 and p0352 appeared but after clearing them fault code p0351 reappeared
When I change both coils at the same time the engine starts for about a second then stalls and is hard to start and runs rough.
I am assuming all 4 coils I have are ok as the fault stays no matter which combination I use but seems to run better on the old coils

Update on this issue, I changed the E.C.U after checking the pulsing signal to the coils, coil 1 had a steady pulse signal, coil 2 had a very slow pulse meaning the signal from the E.C.U was not as good on that coil.
I also checked the injectors and found that switching signal to injectors 1 4 live feed was o.k but no earth switching signal to fuel injectors from E.C.U so it had to be the E.C.U.
After changing it the car now runs very well and hopfully will give me no more problems as I have now replaced spark plugs,ht leads ,coils and E.C.U
Thanks again to everyone who help me with this and I hope this update helps others.

If the ECU detects a problem relating to a coil, it automatically shuts down injection of fuel into the affected cylinders to prevent bore-wash. ;)
