Hi
I have a 05 punto with 25000 miles, intermittently on startup there would be a steering failure, after restarting the engine it would go away for several weeks, ive since been on holiday for 2 weeks and trying it when i got back the steering fault would not go away after several restarts of the engine. I purchased a a second hand pump from the breakers same model (1077), fitted it all but now i have hillstart failre and ESP failure lights, tried driving it but the breaks keep applying and it wont rev, i dissconnected the battery due to taking the airbag off but cant see why it would cause ESp and hillstart failures :( the steering failure has now dissappeared though

any ideas guys??

The old power steering was quite probably ok.

Most likely it's a faulty battery (clue is in the post start faults and holiday lay-off).

All of these systems need a healthy power supply with no dips in voltage. Get the battery properly stress tested but 10:1 a good quality new one will solve the problems. Also remove clean contacts and refit the main engine/battery earth cable.

Junk the small cube battery case (if it has one) and fit one of these. You could save £30 and fit a lower spec but I think the extra is great insurance. Halfords also sell them for a bit more money.

The battery wont need the (small) case but do make sure you strap it down properly.
