I've definately got a problem with my steering. For a start you can turn the wheel slightly before the wheels move and the car seems to be drifting to the left when the wheel is straight.

Generally the steering doesn't seems as tight as when I got it. I think some of these problems seems to have started when I fitted alloy wheels.

Is this an expensive problem to sort out?

Also someone told me you can tighten the steering cogs or something to correct the problem, is this true?

I have the same problem at the moment. I was told its gonna be expensive to fix about 500. Drifting to the left sounds like your tracking could be out but thats not expensive to fix. Does your steering feel lighter? Not as light when city steering is on but not as heavy as it should be? Hopefully it is just something that needs tighting. Sorry forgot to say my is the same yr as yours 1.2 8v ELX

Yeah that's exactly the problem I've got. The steering feels lighter than it should be and if you son't hold the wheel tight when going over bumps in the road, it can be all over the place.

My mk2 had a tendancy to veer to the left when I first got it... Make me look like a kerb crawler !!

Tracking checks revealed nothing, until one day at Bathwick Tyres, they suggested a camber check... as opposed to the normal toe in and out job...

It sorted my problem and now I have even wear on my front tyres... It's worth asking about it...
