General diagnostic software

General diagnostic software

I haven't tried with my Punto, but with my VW Jetta 7 VAG, some settings / errors worked even with just the ignition turned on. With others you needed to have the engine on.
I would guess that the Punto is similar. Errors stored in the ECU should be available even with the engine off.

do i need to have the car running to check diagnostics ? or can it be off ?

seem to be having a bit of trouble with this.cable came with no driver but on ebay page it says to install one of these heres the ebay page http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120715195715&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

in your picture the cable with the red lever thing to the right of that below the fuse that has 7.5 on it its set back quite a bit

i think thats the one your after

thank you, found it,no wonder i could find it how far back it is

do you think need to install the driver for the cable ?

You need some sort of drivers which enables the usb cable to become a comm port.

Then when its given a comm port ie Comm12

You select comm12 on the program and it will connect to car :)

I use fiatecuscan and scanxl

Scanxl requires a diff cable tho.

With Pins 1 3 and 7 i think it is
I was able to reset my airbags after they went out of voltage range (due to car battery been dead as a dodo)

The port is in the middle, on the very bottom of the fuse box :)

Good wiggle to get it in - otherwise i dont have a problem
*except Fiatecu dont know my ECU type*

On ebay there are cables with DIP switches built in for use on MK1 systems.

For Mk2 systems the simple cable with the three coloured adapters is the better bet. Yes, you pay £20 for the adapters but they are coded to match the functions.

ah i see now, it just saves you from having to modify your cable.

that elm 1 is pretty well priced. I have the obdII cable, but that just connects to engine and airbag ecu, so if you needed to do proxi alignment or connect to the power steering these would be ideal.

Yes and you wont get confused clicking the wrong switch. I don't know if that would be harmful but the adaptors avoid that risk.

The ones with the switch are KKL I believe used for the older ECUs.
