Hi, just needed advice on replacing the Oil Sump Pan on my Punto Active. Does it require a gasket? or only sealant? or both?

It just uses a silicone sealant. Personally I prefer the Loctite anaerobic sealants but they are more costly and silicone seems to work fine.

You will need to take off the exhaust down-pipe or you run a big risk of damaging the oil suction tube. (No need to say how not good that is if it falls off ).

You will need a strong but thin scraper/wedge to split the old joint. Its also worth painting the sump with slow drying polyurethane for better protection. Dont use Hammerite it just chips off with stone impacts.

Hi mate :)

White's advice is, as ever, absolutely spot on :) If I could add though, although I didn't change my sump I could see it getting rusty so I did everything I could and then re painted it. On top of that though I used this aerosol stuff (the name of which escapes me lol) but is basically a shultz type thick tarry/rubbery compound that is supposed to prevent stone chips to the underside of the car (if you use it where they recommend).

Think it could be made by Tetroseal :) Red can, white cap.

Either way, its good stuff and I used it by the gallon once the sump paint had dried.

Best of luck then mate :)
