Hi all,

This is my first post to the forum. Am looking for some help. Have a 2001 Punto ELX - bought it second hand and am without a manual for reference.

Can anyone tell me what the amber dash light here is:

As s and b said its the handbrake/ Brake fluid Warning light

It will be on for one the following:

1 Handbrake applied (Light off when Handbrake is released)

2 Brake Fluid is low (which could be caused by worn front brake pads or a fluid leak)

3 Handbrake switch is broken and stuck in the on position.

Just back from the mechanics.

Think the picture I posted is misleading, I was enquiring about the amber light.

Seems it's the engine light. There was an issue with a sensor, it's been resolved now.

No problem

Lets see if it stays off. If it comes back on you will have to have the error codes read and that will give us a starting point to help you

I was gonna say, thats the EML not a handbrake or fluid light at all. Hope some people dont think thats what that is and not get it checked if they put the handbrake on..

Is your car running in that picture? We can't see but if not then its meant to be on when you put the ignition on and only extinguishes once engine is running, if your car is running and the light is on then you have problems and need to have a diagnostic done.
Find it funny that OP asked about amber light and everyone commented on the RED one, maybe glasses are in order?

Fault code was indicating that there was an issue with an exhaust sensor (can't elaborate as I'm a complete newb to the inner workings of my car)

This was due to some work that my mechanic had to do on the exhaust earlier in the week. The light did not come on immediately after he did the work.

The issue has been remedied.

Thanks for the advice folks - very attentive forum. I hope I won't have to query and more Punto issues in the near future, I've had my fair share of problems with this car already. Glad to know there's advice on hand if needed.
