checked timing marks all fine changed the iat and camshaft sensor starts fine now about i hour latter management light back on scanned it again and its saying camshaft sensor again any ideas cheers Paul

MAP/air temp sensor often gets clogged with oil vapour, so that was probably affecting the running.

Obviously fitting a new cam sensor had no effect, so it's either a wiring issue (voltage/earth/scope signal) or timing (did you use the proper tools?).

timing belt was already done just checked the marks on the pulleys will give everything a good clean tomorrow

Paint marks on the pulleys mean sod-all. It has to be checked with the proper tools, I've lost count of the number of 1.2/1.4 16v belts we've had to redo correctly because another garage has tried to get away with paint marks. How long before this problem was it done?

Has it had the cambelt replaced recently? Incorrect valve-timing can cause this error (and running issues).

;)

checked maf sensor as you said was chocked with oil so cleaned that out cheers Paul

I thought you'd already changed the Intake Air Temp/Map sensor (combined unit)?

changed the sensor on the left hand side of engine which was blue thought this was the iat sensor cleaned sensor which looked like the map sensor on top of the inlet manifold on the left hand side cheers Paul also should the car carry on running when you disconnect the cam sensor

started the car this morning took a long time to get it going backfired a few times and smelled of fuel

my camshaft sensor was gunked up with thick dried oil when i checked it the other day, which cant help fuel consumption etc.
wiped it all off, and since than trip computer is reading around 61mpg, not certain this made the difference, but it cant have harmed it!!!
