This is my first post in this forum, so bear with me, if I ask something that's been up a million times before.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2002 Punto automatic ("Speedgear" ECTV) for daily commuting, as my slightly exotic - but up until a month ago very reliable - everyday car has contracted some kind of electronic epilepsy. :bang:

The Punto was chosen mainly because of its great mix of reasonable price and high level of comfort - and because of the CVT-transmission. And as I become more and more familiar with it, I also get more fond of it. Never thought that would happen with an Italian car! (y)

But there is one thing in this car, which is driving me nuts: The alarm beeper which goes off whenever I put it in Reverse! Ahhhh Now, I have already bought myself a Haynes book, as I normally sort my cars out myself. But there is no mention of said alarm in it, so my question to you is:

Where is the beeper hidden? It sounds like it's right behind the instrument cluster, but I would love to save myself the trouble of pulling everything out, if somebody here has precise directions.

Anybody?

I'm not familiar with the Punto but Fiat generaly fit the parking sensor ECU and buzzer in the boot behind one of the side panels.

Of course, someone may have fitted them as after market, in which case, they could be anywhere.

My mother has a Panda Duologic auto which also has an annoying beeper for just about everything except forward driving. It sounds like its under the driver's side dash.

The speedgear is likely to be the same & the little booger must be on the wiring diagram.

We've had a few Speedgear problems on here. A change of grabox oil might be a good idea, use the proper stuff from Fiat. Not cheap but better than blowing the box.

PS I like the Duologic but that beeper - Aaagh!

The beeper is not for reversing sensors, its to remind the driver that reverse has been engaged.

I think its part of the gearbox ECU and is not disconnectable.

Cheers

I'd soon be in there with a sock or some plasticine over the ****ing beeper.

My HGT hasn't got a beeper on reverse gear and I've never reversed into my wheely bin (yet).

The motor makers seem to think all auto box drivers are thick. My mothers duologic beeps into neutral into reverse when you dont put your foot on brake (although it wont select if you don't - which is fine) Its a ridiculous nannying and spoils an otherwise good drive.

if you are in wrong gear in a manual you feel car going wrong way slightly as clutch bites, in an auto it will all happen too fast some times, a lot af acidents happen like this in older auto with out the buzzer

But the Duologic has effectively an manual box so it will stall. But, its not the interlocks that are annoying (they have always been there on autos) its the nannying beeper that often bongs away for no obvious reason.

Mum's car even does it when you park and when you first start it. I've tried all permutations of handbrake, brake pedal, gears neutral, etc & it still bongs away. There is so much warning noise overkill any normal person will eventually ignore it.

There's a chance when she stops driving that I'll take the car. First mod will be plasticine in the bonger speaker. The interlocks are fine but not that dam noise.

Thanks for all your input! :)

If it isn't possible to actually remove the beeper itself, then that's an excellent Plan B!

its for safety don't remove it. you will get used to it, better than forgetting you are in reverse and slaming foot on throttle and crashing or running some one over
I have been driving for 27 years now (mostly with automatics). Thus I'm experienced enough not to reverse into stuff and not old enough to forget which gear i'm in... ;)

When you start doing that, you probably need to hand in your license and let your children drive you around! :chin:

With a slight tinnitus from listening to too much rock music :)slayer:), ANY beeping sound will make me rage within seconds

Well, the beep comes from behind the instrument panel. Looks like I'm going to have to pull the damn thing apart! (Will keep you posted)

Did anyone find out where the beeper is? i'd like to put some hot glue on it so its a bit quieter

my guess would be that its hidden in a relay. vauxhall are big on doing that.
my car had an annoying "ignition on" beep, the only way i found out where it was comeing from was by pulling out random fuses and relays while it was beeping.
my corsa didnt have an ECU so i figured i could not hurt anything by doing it lol

dont recommend doing that with yours mind, i bet your car has a bigger ECU than my desktop PC
