Hello everyone! I have a fiat punto 2001 and I bought it in June after my old beloved red punto 2000 had to be written off :(

After I bought this car, I thought great! I love it! but then several problems started... after fixing few bits and pieces with the help of a certain i**** who sold me this thing.

End of November/beginning of December I have noticed that power steering is failing every time I turn left a bit harsh - like turning into the car park at work, home, when I am parking into a tight spot,.... literally it has been happening more and more and it is pissing me off to the point where I think I will push it off a cliff and collect my insurance money :bang:

if that is not enough my left indicator start twitching and my front window blades are juddering from beginning... I ask my local garage to fix it ( before I noticed the power steering failing and indicator problem ) and they said that fiat repair center that it has to be the unit behind the steering wheel and after they replaced that, still didnt do the trick, send it back and they said they dont know what is wrong and try to reconnect few wires and that didnt help.

I am going to take my car to the garage next week, so they can fix power steering and indicator but I want to fix my blades as well. Any ideas?

Also do you know if its even worth me fixing power steering... I am hearing people say that it costs quite a lot of money.. is that correct?

Thanks

Hi mate and welcome to the forum!

Wiper blades = Common problem, dead easy to fix. takes about 30 mins. follow THIS guide

Power steering - The EPAS on punto's is notoriously sensitive. A weak battery will throw the warning light. So first thing to check is the condition of your battery before worrying about new columns etc.

Indicator - What do you mean by twitching?

lol, sorry I just used a word that came to my mind. My left indicator flashes irregular

Dodgy / incorrect bulb or bulbs, maybe an earthing problem in one of the light units?

hey guys,

Thank you for you tips, I fixed the juddering wipers.

Today I have noticed that besides my left indicator that flashes irregularly, the left side back lights are also flashing irregularly when I turn on my hazards lights... I don’t think I can fix that on my own can I?

Hi mate,

Yes its most likely to be a dodgy earth on the rear lights. Just clean up the contacts and the earth points and hopefully that should sort it. This could also be connected with your front indicator not flashing correctly if it is on the same side.

Hello guys again... I took my car to a mechanic to fix the dodgy earthing and my steering wheel.

I told them to check the battery first to see if maybe that is the fault. They confirmed that battery is absolutely fine and after they put it through scanning it come with this error message on the motor which runs power steering:

C1005 Steering column motor torque position sensors

what does that mean?

did you get your lights sorted ?
its a common enough problem for the tail lights to go haywire from a bad earth (y)

dont know about your fault code, sorry, hope you get sorted

yeah I did... apparently the bit that is making connection on the back light is getting pretty old ( i really don't remember what is called for the life of me). I ask the mechanic why doesn't he change the part for new and he said its not worth it as its too expensive.

Does anyone know whats up with that error code in regards to power steering?

Oh dear...... thats the message you do not want to see :(

If you read Dave's guide on the EPS system, it clearly says you've got the horrible message you dont want :(

Sorry but its not looking good

my local garage told me I need to go to Fiat repair center to fix the problem with my power steering and they quoted me 102 GBP for diagnostics test to confirm what my local garage already found out!

any ideas how to avoid such an expense and get straight to the point of fixing it?

I understand that the above error message is bad and it might not be worth fixing it but even if it costs me 500 GBP + VAT its still cheaper than buying another car and have problems with that one... I was looking around for reliable car as I want one to last at least for the next 2 years until I can afford to buy a better car and its all rubbish what they are offering at the moment (n)

ok... result.... power steering column was s*** which means the whole unit had to be changed... cost me 774 GBP but now I should be fine for a while...
